I worked at United Talent full-time

    Pros

An assistant-level job at UTA is like getting paid to go to entertainment grad school. Get a sense of the culture it takes to 'make it' in Hollywood. Unparalleled networking opportunities.

    Cons

Incessant never-ending workload. Low salaries. Long hours. Many personalities are unsatisfiable divas.

I worked at United Talent full-time

    Pros

They have very talented people in the organization.

    Cons

They lack continuity in management personnel and philosophy.

    Advice to Management

Build your executives in the same successful manor you build your clients.

I worked at United Talent full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Boutique feel in a massive company CAO is extremely helpful, fair, and caring Moving up is almost certain if you put in the time Strong family and community feel Bonuses, parties, lunches, benefits Paid internships Everyone is treated equal from the top to the bottom

    Cons

I really cant think of any. If you realize sometimes work is just busy work and that doesn't bother you...

    Pros

Great place to work to learn the ins-and-outs of the entertainment industry. Great place to learn skills you will use to be an agent.

    Cons

If you plan on making your way to an agent plan on doing a ton of sucking up and don't plan on seeing your family for 4 years. Be ready to feel like you aren't worth anything.

    Advice to Management

It's not all about you, the people under you are doing most of the work. Give credit where its due.

  8. Mailroom Intern

    Pros

Very social workplace, very well known in the entertainment field, great contacts, learned a lot about the role of the agency in the creative process

    Cons

Upward mobility (intern to trainee to assistant in desired division to agent), hours, often dealing with difficult people (agents and clients) and very high expectations

I worked at United Talent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Aggressive talent agency with smart agents and a strong client list. Strongest training model in the talent agency business in my experience.

    Cons

It's a talent agency. Takes a very particular kind of person to enjoy this kind of work. Long hours. Very competitive. Tough to get promoted and not worth it unless you want to live and breath agenting.

I worked at United Talent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Foot in the door in the industry, access.

    Cons

Low pay, stressful environment, long hours.

    Advice to Management

Provide more career guidance to your assistants. Not all will become agents, so why waste their time? High turnover results in more time training new assistants, so give more incentives for people to stick around. 'Access' is not enough (aka listening into phonecalls.)
