Advice to Senior Management
good working environment for junior level engineers, have opportunities to grow. however, the career path for senior level people are rather narrow..

Cons
Short sighted management in many regards, hence many do not walk the talk.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring back George David.
Pros
Storng leadership team to lead the company.
Cons
Less focus is placed on employees as a financial-driven company. They treat you as a number and a smaller number of employees means a good job of management and more bonuses.
Advice to Senior Management
Since economy is turning around and UTC is making money with a high stock price. Pay you employees fairly, since a regular emplyee will not get a year-end bonus.
Pros
You work with some of the best engineers in the world. Pay and benefits are excellent. The company has a long and proud history and the employees are proud to be associated with the company.
Cons
Senior management is a good old boys club. Limited opportunities for anyone who is not is the club. They will acknowledge excellance but will not promote.
Advice to Senior Management
There are several dedicated employees that deserve a promotion (in pay grade only) that stay only because they love the company. Don't take advantage of them, promote them.
Pros
Good Products
Benefits
Good Work Life Balance
Interesting Product Lines
Some Really Great Mid Level Managers
Some Excellent Hourly Workers
Cons
Senior Management only cares about thier own.
Working level employees are stuck where they are.
No chance for advancement unless you are in the Old Boy Network.
All Work is on it's way to India or Poland.
Advice to Senior Management
Maybee it's time to get your heads out of each others butt, and find out what is really going on.
You will be without any experienced peole on the work floor soon, average age is over 50.
Pros
good process. intelligent and reasonable people. good benefiits and honest people who work hard. Industry is reliable and not too many tough competitors.
Cons
averge intelligence. a lot people with over 30 years of experience. very beauracratic and hierarchial.
communication to lower level is not goodl
Advice to Senior Management
fair review process and hiring within not from the outside. communicate to lower level employees and provide education experiennce to grow.
Pros
Great Place to work, smart people, good benefits and education programs. Ability to work within multiple divisions - Otis, Carrier, Pratt, Pratt Cananda, Hamilton, Sikorsky, UTC Power
Cons
Long hours, lack of recognition
Advice to Senior Management
better rewards for performance
Pros
There are lots of opportunities for movement - many locations within a 30 minute driving area as well as many locations around the world if a move is preferred. You also do not get trapped in job situations for years on end, as movement is encouraged.
Networking and being recognized is very easy due to the large but centralized company. Most employees have worked for and keep in touch with employees in other divisions, so there is no excuse to not have a reputation to work with.
Cons
Pay and benefits are very low compared to similar jobs in the surrounding area. The employee scholar program is the only unique benefit, but if you do not intend to take advantage, UTC can be frustrating to work for.
Low compensation is even harder to grasp due to the poor work life balance offered. Hours and face time expectations are high and there is always a shortage of heads to complete necessary tasks (even in the good economic times).
Advice to Senior Management
Many employees work at UTC understanding their pay may be lower than similar jobs. The hard part is the lack of comp time, extremely stingy PTO policies, etc.
Also - you pay in the (less than) 50th percentile, you retain employees that perform less than that mark. You lose the employees that are worth their salt to competitors who will compensate for performance.
Pros
The Employee Scholar Program is very good. They will cover the expenses up front and will pay for one degree per level(1 Masters, 1 Bachelor, 1 Associates). They make sure you try to have a work-life balance; they are very flexible with the time you can come in the morning and leave as long as you do your minimum of 40 hrs per week for salary employees. There are many opportunities for career development in terms of employee network groups and networking events. Prepare yourself educationally and take advantage of the benefits that are available to you.
Cons
Due to the many benefits they provide, sometimes their pay may be less compared to other companies. Not all managers are used to recognize employees for a job well done even though they have recognition awards. You have to lookout for your own career development because otherwise you may stay in the same position for many years.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize employees more often, increase the pay scale for outstanding employees and let employees pursue another Masters degree even if they already pursued one. You will decrease the employee turnover.
Pros
Very smart people
Stable company, generates a lot of cash
Lots of growth opportunities for ambitious folks who are mobile
Decent benefits & compensation
Cons
Long Hours
Longer Hours
Shareholders are more important than employees
UTC will readily close an operation if the costs can be reduced.
Advice to Senior Management
With such a deep management bench, UTC should acquire companies more aggressively. They have the young talent that is hungry for new challenges and could be deployed into these new businesses
