I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits and pay are ok. Nice people to work with who care about what they are doing. Flexible work environment.

    Cons

Constant re-organizing of people and departments. Management does not do a good job of communicating the reason and benefits for the changes.

    Advice to Management

Senior managements needs to be aware of how the constant changes and re-organizations are impacting the health and morale of their work force.

Your typical Behemoth company! Not for the smart people, they want average workers.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Gives you a chance to truly affect the life of other people. 2. Lots of opportunities to learn and grow. 3. Lots of flexibility around telecommuting options.

    Cons

    1. Horrible Bonuses. 2. Very close minded, senior management. 3. The company has evolved to become almost militaristic under the premise of leaner and better. 4. People are overworked. 5. Company culture is horrible.

    Advice to Management

    1. Recognize and keep your talent. 2. Reward and recognize your employees.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Market rate compensation, fantastic boss, fun but serious office culture, plenty of challenges to keep your work interesting, definitely embraces the most updated technology available in business

    Cons

It is a very large company with a lot of different business units that need to be integrated into the organization. There may not be as many career opportunities at your current location but those may be available in another area of the country.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Telecommute options are available for certain positions and the offices are nice. Community events in call centers make the atmosphere exciting.

    Cons

Not much room for growth. Given extra responsibilities outside of what you are hired for with little to no raise and no opportunity for promotion. There is also a high turnover rate. My last two raises were only 1% though the cost of living in MD continues to rise

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with your expectations. There is a lot of favoritism in my center which discourages people from trying harder. Allow room for promotion to those that show incentive. Raises and pay should be comparable to other companies offering the same positions.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of any except that I received a paycheck.

    Cons

Hostile work environment created by 2 Directors in Finance. Their supervisors will not take responsibility to correct the problem. Hire overqualified people to do mundane work. Lie to candidates in interviews regarding the work they will perform. Management makes excuses when employees quit. They lie to staff as to the reasons employees choose to leave. Implementations of new systems are constantly pushing deadlines. Staff is expected to perform their daily tasks and end user testing for months with no end in sight. Management threatens staff with longer hours and working weekends when they don't get their way. Too many unproductive meetings. Management makes a lot of bad decisions at the expense of the staff. Management is out of touch with the employees. Focus too much on surveys instead of actually speaking to the employees.

    Advice to Management

Need to address the "rotten apples" creating the hostile work environment before one of the staff gets smart and reports you to HR. Not sure if you are just not smart enough to recognize the issues or you really want to ignore them.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can work remotely sometimes. People are nice and easy to work with.

    Cons

Too much pressure if you want to develop to next level. There is not enough training.

    Advice to Management

They make the team flat which means one manager must have more than 7 or more team member. This really delay some interaction.

    Pros

    They have very knowledgeable employees

    Cons

Average to below average salary Weak bonuses Most Promotions are given based on nepotism or friendships and result in people being ineffective in their positions

    Advice to Management

Reduce all the layers of management Dont let a new VP of Operations, coming from Account Management, bring their admin assistant over and make her manager when she has not been mentored for that position Recognize your frontline employees Hire managers and directors who are LEADERS and have people skills
