    Great place to work

Senior IT Architect Analyst (Current Employee)
    Minneapolis, MN

ProsWorking from home is the norm instead of the exception. UHG has really figured out how to do it the right way. Technology is cutting edge. Management is receptive to new ideas and getting away from the "old way" of doing IT and setting the curve instead of following it. This leads to some of the cons below, but those will improve in time. I am the most excited I have ever been about IT in a long, long time.

ConsChange is hard and painful. Lots of long hours and uncompensated overtime. UHG is a large company and moves at an iceberg pace like any other company of its size.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep pushing forward and evolving the culture to be fast, flexible and adaptive. There is a great opportunity to be a market leader in healthcare technology and UHG (Optum) is headed in the right direction.

    Great culture, lots of options

    Associate Director (Current Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsPositive work-life balance and flexibility, high expectations for performance, good culture, lots of options once you're in the company, pay for performance culture, cares about employees, in favor of development and growth, telecommuting options

ConsUncertainty of industry, large company that isn't very agile, demanding work, lack of focus in many jobs (asked to take on a lot of different things), not great health benefits package for an insurer (but not atypical in industry), conflicts between need for more services and more quality and cost-cutting

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider employee experience when discussing cost cutting strategies, especially balancing with other demands, like an increase in service and quality. Transparency is always valued. Hold all employees accountable for culture.
