Pros
Quality of the people you work with
Good pay
Flexibility to work around the country and stay with the same country
Fortune 20 company?
Cons
Lot of bureaucracy since it's so big
information sharing among the departments is needing improvement
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to work to streamline and make it easier for low level leadership to make bigger changes
More encouragement and promotion for people who come up with innovative solutions to big problems
Pros
-Great work experience
-Looks good on the resume (UHG is considered a Fortune 25 company)
-Very flexible with telecommuting
-Healthcare insurance is a rapidly growing industry that provides job security
Cons
-Annual increases are low (but the initial job offer is very competitive when you are an external hire)
-High level of bureaucracy due to the size of the company
-Culture is very driven and taking a lot of PTO is somewhat frowned upon
Advice to Senior Management
Understand that people need to have a work life balance and taking PTO isn't a bad thing. Consider rewarding your current employees a bit more.
Pros
I enjoy environment, respect and flexibility
Cons
Too much orientation to statistics, too fast moving
Advice to Senior Management
Understand humans working with humans
Pros
Hard to say, good schedule that helps balance home/work, allow for flex time if needed.
Cons
Insane work load, managment that seems to promote those that are subpar and overlook those with the most knowledge and ability. Divert the easier work to those that they want to promote to make them look better and help support their decision to promote them so that it makes it look like they were correct in thier pick, what a joke. The worst college reimbursement program I have seeen in the business world. I would never reccommend this company to a friend, and enemy...yes. The compensation for the amount of work is absolutely a disgrace, considering the CEO was paid 102 million 2 yrs ago after telling the rest of us "no soup for you" (no raise), then the next year give him a 40% haircut, only to give him a 26% increase the next. Sorry, dont find that acceptable.
Advice to Senior Management
wake up and smell the coffee, there are some really knowledgeable people that are going to walk away as quick as you can blink when this economy turns around if you dont start paying better and promoting those that actually deserve it.
Pros
Initial Compensation is pretty good
Large growing company
Very good people to work with
Decent work/life balance
Cons
Doing the right thing is very much frowned upon if someone might not "look" good about it.
Project resourcing is always understaffed and timelines are not adjusted for that
Compensation is very poor after your initial hire
Many people have been asked to do borderline unethical things.
Advice to Senior Management
Your middle management through senior management needs to be looked at (at least in IT). Many of the people in leadership positions are managers that are in over their head and have not been developed with the leadership skills you would expect at a company this size.
Pros
You have more freedom to do your job with out some one standing over you.
Generally speaking management gives you the benefit of the doubt on any mistake made.
Cons
The wrong employees often get promoted when they shouldn't be.
Job is very repetitive.
They pride themselves on flexibility when they really are not.

Sometimes seemed too large and is very affected by investment community.
Pros
The compensation is competitive compared to others
It depends on your business unit management may be well understanding
They have many vacation days which is good
Cons
No clear communication from the managers
Promotion not from within hard to move to other positions
It is too mega that integration of acquisations is challenging
Advice to Senior Management
Invest on your employees and develop talent
Pros
IT leadership has great vision and goals.
Cons
It isn't easy to move up or out of your department into jobs that will stretch your existing experience level.

Seek out staff to proactively advance them to new opportunities.
