I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They kept training me to do more and more platforms and skills. Learning to help members more and more in very difficult areas.

    Cons

If it took longer than 2 minutes to help them, you would get a Verbal or written warning for your time metrics going up. There is just no way to give quality help in 120 seconds. I took my chances and gave quality help and was fired for my time metrics. I helped people fix problems that employees trying to beat the 2 minute time criteria created and helped a great many people. (members were finally able to get Chemo meds) TOTALLY WORTH IT. At the end of the day it isn't how fast you work, it's how many lives you touch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop with the favoritism and time metrics and give some quality help, not fast help to the Members.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Several telecommuting opportunities and plenty of training availability.. Fast paced environment along with smart, hard working staff make the day go by quicker.

    Cons

Company is very cost conscious these so layoffs are a concern as well as lousy raises/bonuses. Due to size the culture is somewhat impersonal.. Some recent high visibility projects have been poorly implemented resulting in an unfavorable reception from provider community

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to better retain employees.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Positive environment, matrixed organization, welcoming culture for all employees to engage and grow, good benefits with good PTO compensation, excellent job training and company sponsored courses to take to build your resume

    Cons

the matrixed environment may have your supervisor in another state while their supervisor may be down th hall in your office, may be tricky at times but overall not difficult to work in.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Desk job, don't really make contact with patients but depends on your job function. Work is not too overwhelming if you're ably to keep up with an always changing environment. Good benefits and lots of overtime. If you like to work to make extra money it's a plus.

    Cons

Micro managing happens a lot. Must follow a break and lunch schedule down to the minute. Definitely all about numbers, if you can't keep up you're gone. Mandated overtime can take over your life. Raises are between 0-5%.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots. People, pay, culture, flexible schedules, telecommuting common, most locations have nice amenities like gym and cafeteria

    Cons

Long hours are common. Great for young, single or career driven. Not so good If you want to give your family any degree of priority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop losing great talent to burnout and turnover

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

United is a great company to work for in this role. They really push their technology and you utilizing this tool with your brokers and to utilize online resources, which helps makes your job easier. This is a position with high pressure, but you learn a lot about everything. The rewards are commission and base and building your network, technology and start to great career.

    Cons

The cons are long hours, high expectations and UHC doesn't want to pay a good commission for the West Coast AM's?? Not sure if they understand the market, so the commission structure is adjusted downward, to force a renewal person to upsell way more additional products to meet a decent commission. Thus pushing the burden on you..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper Management.. value your sales staff and give them more incentives to sell, retain and maintain your products. California is a tough market and relationships with brokers are critical, but if you don't give your staff greater incentives, they can be easily lured by competitors.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good people, dynamic environment, trying hard to serve members. Consolidation of acquisitions is a constant source of opportunities.

    Cons

Legacy employees drag down the more nimble, newer workers. Planning happens too far in advance to really respond to market changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Greater communication with rank and file. Less onerous capital financing process.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Career opportunities, friendly employees, overtime available.

    Cons

-Sometimes you are treated like just a number. Senior management does not take the time to get to know you before they decide to place you somewhere.
-They will fire you for one small mistake instead of working with you.
    -Compensation is below average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know your employees on a first name & personality basis before making placement decisions. Do a better job of researching one's character before placing a sentence. These are people's lives on the line and I thought there would be a better focus on integrity.
