Pros
They pay well for IT positions. If you're in a well managed department, you'll have a good experience and opportunity for job growth.
Cons
Internal communication isn't good. Navigating internal red tape is a huge part of all positions. Health insurance isn't very good for a company that sells health insurance
Advice to Senior Management
Become visible to your employees. This company seems to be run by a bunch of ghosts.
Pros
The company is relatively flexible when it comes to telecommuting. If you are looking for mobility, there are opportunities in various geographic areas.
Cons
I've worked for a few organizations and this has been the worst by far. If you enjoy working extremely long hours and being treated poorly, this is the organization for you. The management brings Dilbert to life. In the area I worked, the employee satisfaction scores were extremely low. The management had employees volunteer to develop solutions. After several fair and reasonable ideas were presented and rejected, management basically forced a department potluck. The employees had to have it after work hours and they brought the food. The CEO took home over $150 million in 2 years but they couldn't even offer employees a hot dog or a cookie.
Advice to Senior Management
In the 4 years I worked for this company, I didn't see a single effort to show interest at all the well-being of employees. I have a certain level of respect for the fact you are transparent about focusing only on the bottom line. The lack of care or interest for the employees and your customers - whether it's physicians or members is widely discussed.
Pros
Work/Life Balance - Recognizing life outside of work
Co-Workers - Great people to work with and for
Paid TIme Off - One of the best PTO packages in the area
Cons
Training - Training for positions of supervisors and above is non-existent for Job function duties. Leadership training is however excellent
Advice to Senior Management
Work on training existing supervisors to train new supervisors for a more successful onboarding process. This seems to be a common issue among most companies
Pros
I do feel like my opinion is respected and my work is appreciated. I feel the compensation package is fair, and am satisfied with my salary.
Cons
Because it is such a large company, it is often hard to find the right person who handles a particular task or job. You tend to get to know the people within your small area, and a few contacts in other areas, but it can be a challenge to find subject matter experts when its an area you haven't dealt with before. Also, I find that when a problem is identified, no one wants to volunteer to fix the problem. Everyone stands around and agrees there is a problem and looks at each other but doesn't say "I will take the lead to fix that".
Advice to Senior Management
Too much time is spent meeting to discuss issues, and not enough time is spent solving the issues. Pay attention to ALL members of your team, not just the squeaky wheel.
Pros
Great place, where performance is most important and they treat you well. They have smart people to work with and the progress is good on projects and initiatives.
Cons
The culture of corporate is boring and conservative. A lot of employees cause the the work to become slow and bureaucratic.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
Pros
I think our focus is clear and I like where we are going in this economy and with out current leadership. Love the ability to work from home and very generous with PTO. There are many opportunities for development and movement if I want to make that effort.
Cons
I am not always sure what the other businesses are doing, being we are so big. There is no transparency into who the leaders are with each group. I would like the benefits to be more comprehensive than they are.
Advice to Senior Management
Help me learn from you. Let’s become a learning organization. I think our overall leaders are strong and can be a good influence if they show us their tool box and help learn their tools.
Pros
Good benefits
Good opportunity for advancement
Good pay
Cons
Small fish in a large sea feel...if you get stuck with arrogant and poor management like me, your job can be very unpleasant.
Advice to Senior Management
Less saying, more doing.
Pros
Great environment to gain knowledge about the health care industry. So much going on with every aspect of the business. Very good at moving employees between segments for those interested in getting more experience in different areas. Very intelligent workforce! Great for networking!
Cons
Very individualistic culture. Management changes frequently diluting the effectiveness of their talent and human capital processes creates significant overlap in roles.
Advice to Senior Management
Look to ways that you improve how you manage your talent. A great employee base, but you're unable to fully tap it because of some poor investments in leadership capabilities.
Pros
Flexible hours, reasonable pay, mutual respect
Cons
No accountability, too many directors, and VP
Advice to Senior Management
Benchmark manufacutring companies and stream line the business before making acquisitions
A lot of IT work is required
Pros
There is a great willingness to share and teach newcomers. Many opportunties to network. There is a lot of telecommuting and yet with the type of people you work with, you are able to develop strong relationships.
Cons
There is little or no structure to new employee orientation. However, if you are a self starter, there is a lot of resources to take advantage of.
Advice to Senior Management
More structure with performance planning and employee development. This was the first job I have ever had with no established performance goals.
