    Cons

Leadership seems very focused on the bottom-line, at the expense of the employees' well-being

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Nice work environment. Clean furniture, and nice views.

    Cons

Trickle down bonuses and raises. Salaries for BAs are from the dark ages. Managers tend to take bonuses in the trickle down process, leaving employees with little or no compensation. This place takes bad employment practices to a new level. If you resign, you won't be paid for ANY of your vacation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When all of the managers go on an expensive vacation shortly after bonuses are handed out, it doesn't take a data analyst to figure out that you've received a bonus. This is cronyism to a level I've never seen before.

    Pros

People you meet in daily interactions.

    Cons

Haphazard application of policy; favoritism; disability discrimination; dishonest leadership; politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review your leaders; investigate all claims of retaliation and discrimination by using an outside agency. Current practice is like the Fox watching the Hen House -- Literally!

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Telecommute option. Good PTO time. Good employees (Not in a management position). Good initial hiring pay.

    Cons

Culture (Wage slavery, abuse of employees, dishonesty)
Medical Benefits (Insurance through the exchange is cheaper and often better)
    LEADERSHIP!
    Communications
    Work Hours
    Instability
    Continuous Restructuring
No internal advancement (externally hired individuals preferred unless lateral move)
    Little or no raises
    Little or no bonuses
    Gossiping
    No work-life balance
    Office Politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees make the company successful. Without the employees, the company would not be able to meet the company/division goals or investor expectations. Be honest with staff and demonstrate appreciation more than just one day a year on employee appreciation day.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great career options given the breadth and size of the company. Fairly progressive from an IT standpoint again given it's size.

    Cons

Lots of typical challenges for a huge company but the company acknowledges it and is trying to address them. It's a very self serve culture which may not be for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the company a smaller company feel by being more present to the people in your organizations. Get out of your office and walk the floor and engage folks.

    Pros

Can work from home whenever I want. Get to work on interesting projects. Leadership trusts their employees and takes direction from them.

    Cons

To get a large salary increase you have to leave then come back. The longer you work there the less competitive your pay is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward people for staying, not for leaving and coming back.

    Cons

little career movement. salary below market. healthcare benefits not competitive; high deductible plans where employees pay more out of pocket than other local and national companies. lack of leadership and vision. certainly not an employee of choice company. if you're looking to join this company be sure you understand the level of the role and the salary range.
