    Pros

UnitedHealth Group have a lot of employee growth potential. They offer many self training courses.

    Cons

Each time they restructure you may change managers several times for the same position. Depending on the team there is no training you must already know what you are doing or rely on the team that has been in the department the longest to know the culture. The Medical insurance is consumer driven, no copay, you have a very high deductible.

    Advice to Management

New team managers understand that just because you are on the team that does not mean you know the culture of the team. You have to take time to know and understand the individual and maybe when they tell you they do not know it is not an excuse, they really do not know and its time for some in depth training.

    Pros

    Cons

Lack of continuing education when requested. No support from managers/team leads.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Room for growth and open door policy. Respectful management always there to assist. Team working environment.

    Cons

Salary and commission is not very high and is in some way capped. Yearly sales goals are high and demanding of extreme effort but compensation does not seem to correspond to the level of effort one has to put to reach those numbers.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to push for higher compensation for telesales team.

    Pros

great PTO. Desk job and great hours. Potential work at home (although that option is not open to my team...)

    Cons

I've heard horror storries from other departments. management acts like big brother. lots of mandatory overtime with very little notice. High tune over rates in the customer service area. Low pay

    Advice to Management

Learn to trust your employees. Stop trying to monitor our every movements.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Solid benefits. 100% Work at home. Focus on corporate culture from top down. Decent pay scale. Kind of place you can go to and stay for 20+ years. Company stock is very stable.

    Cons

Too many leaders above you. 110+k employees. So large it is easy to get lost. Pay is not consummate with experience level. It takes a long time to promote and salary increase. Very frugal company. Rarely ever see any swag.

    Advice to Management

Feels like the $$$ focus is on stock not on employees working to make the $$$.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being a big company, you get lots of room to grow. If you want to become trained in something, you can do it (given management approval). There have been several new job postings every day I have worked here (3 years+), so there is lots of room to move around. Good job for telecommuters.

    Cons

There are 25 layers of management that need to be weeded through to get anything done. If you have a good idea, it can take months to get started and years to get completed due to all the hurdles that you have to jump over. If you don't live in one of the big population hubs for the company (i.e., Minnesota), then you don't get some of the "perks" that the company offers, like discounts for goods and services. Also, most of the new jobs available are in those hubs, so good luck getting them. Surprisingly terrible with data, considering the size of the company...

    Advice to Management

Listen more closely to the people on the ground level. While the company does a decent job of listening, very few projects get started from the ground up, most are top down. The people on the ground need more incentive to give good ideas and have them come to fruition

    Pros

Good benefits. Good amount of time off - if you take it! Flexible work schedules which leads to a better work/life balance.

    Cons

Can be a very competitive company internally. Makes it hard to trust people. Recruitment process is pretty cold when working with external people.

    Advice to Management

Be a little nicer and have more actual team/relationship building.
