    I worked at Unitrans part-time

    Pros

Set your own schedule that they are very attentive to around your schooling. You learn a lot about mechanics, and heavy duty machinery.

    Cons

Because it is a student job, the pay that you receive after working there for longer than two years is not up to the caliber of the experience. I knew students who had graduated, got hired for contract, and were doing the same job that they were when they were a student, but getting paid $8.00 and hour more.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a substantial wage. The starting wage makes sense, but allow for more than $0.25 a year raise. If they were working anywhere else, the pay would be over $20/hr.

    I worked at Unitrans full-time

    Pros

Highest paid student job at UCD, flexible hours, make your own schedule, become part of a community.

    Cons

Sometimes work more hours than you want, get stuck with bad shifts as a newbie, everyone must attend super long meetings held 3x per quarter

    Advice to Management

Find ways to make mandatory meetings shorter. Give new employees at least a couple good shifts. Make weekend shifts weekly (not one times) like they used to be.

I have been working at Unitrans part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Unitrans is super flexible and works around your schedule. You pick your shifts based on your class schedule and the Human Resources Manager is always available to help you when you need it! All my co workers are super awesome and we all hang out with each other, wave to each other when driving, and there's a lot of camaraderie in the company

    Cons

Time consuming with some early and late night shifts Might be overwhelming for some

    Advice to Management

    You guys are awesome ^_^

    Pros

Extremely flexible schedule, great coworkers, very unique job for a college student.

    Cons

At times it could be too much for some, very stressful and demanding training.

I worked at Unitrans part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everybody here is super friendly and welcoming! It's great to be a part of something essential to the Davis community, and it's great to know that your coworkers are people that you can count on for anything.

    Cons

Having to balance school life with bus life can be hard sometimes - especially if you are having a harder quarter. The hourly requirements you have to meet can make it hard for you to make time for your classes,

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Everything is so professionally run, the staff is great and always tries to be accommodating. It's great to have that "Uni-family" feeling.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Unitrans part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great hours, good pay, extremely flexible, and best way to meet people. If you want to gain experience in training, or dispatching, HR, supervising, or clerical work, definitely apply. Driving Tipsy Taxi is definitely fun and a good way to make tips.

    Cons

Rough hours when you first start, until you move up in seniority. Sometimes you start at 5am or earlier, and sometimes you don't end until past midnight.

    Pros

Great pay. Hours are flexible. Coworkers are amazing! There are opportunities to move within the company. Many different routes to drive so it never gets boring.

    Cons

You have to find someone to cover your shift of you do not want a penalty. However, if you notify the supervisor early, they can help you get your shift covered.

  11. Best job for a student on campus!!

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

One hour shifts that allow flexibility with classes. Opportunity to advance to supervisory positions. Require independence while driving, which is nice if you like being on your own, but it is incredibly easy to make friends with other drivers. In fact it is encouraged!

    Cons

The temptation to keep working at Unitrans for a long time may hinder students from applying for internships, but if you want to take a break to study abroad or do an internship it is completely possible.
