ProsBenefits and 401K packages are decent and above average considering today's economy.

ConsIf you like making a select few wealthy, while you make industry average then this is the place for you.

ProsCo-workers and immediate managment is, for the most part, a great group of people.

ConsNepotism / favoritism. Poor leadership. Lack of family values. Too much work / workflow not equally distributed. Expectations too high. Egotism. Don't have the proper tools to adequately do our job. Poor training. Poor morale.

Advice to Senior ManagementUntil you change your attitude toward your claims department we will continue to have high turn over, poor morale and more mistakes will be made.

ProsJob security is pretty high, if you like doing the same thing for 8-10 years

ConsSo budget focused that employee morale and training are afterthoughts. Communication from Sr mgmt is getting better, but still lacking. No mentoring and reviews are worthless in terms of practical feedback from your manager.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe involved and know your staff's needs. Loosen up on the pennies and keep important staff by offering career building opportunities.

Former Employee – worked at Unitrin Specialty

ProsSlightly better than industry average beginning salary. Matching 401K with short vesting period. Some friendly and hard working co-workers, team members and management.

ConsToo much work with unrealistic time given to get it accomplished. Work flow is unequally distributed with some persons getting half or less the work of others. No real opportunity for advancement due to favoritism and excessive politics. Low company morale. It seems that management exists to add new work flow processes and procedures and then micromanage every aspect of the day.

Former Employee – worked at Unitrin Specialty

ProsInitial pay was good although I understand its dropped significantly

ConsUnless you know someone higher up plan to stay in the position you get hired in. Don't miss a day of work unless you want a target painted on your back to shove you out the door. The reason behind the absence does not matter.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to treat your employees with respect.
