    Pros

Good pay and benefits, and the opportunity to work with some of the most challenging behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. Opportunities for supervision, collaboration, and on site clinical training from a leader in the field.

    Cons

Taking time off even for continued education credits was frowned upon and discouraged. Lack of therapeutic office space with little privacy, poor ventilation, noisy units. No electronic medical records. At weekly team meetings, little to no discussion of clinical issues. High turnover rate; high complaint rate from residents. Orientation for new therapists lacked relevance; it suited behavioral staff more. Must go in for family therapy on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees work life balance.

    Pros

The corporate office is newly renovated and its hospitals are on the cutting edge of the industry. Quarterly meetings are held to update the staff on what's going on within the company.

    Cons

Not that it is like this within every department, but in the department in which I worked people felt that they were treated like children. Going by the motto of do as I say not what I do. You are not given the room to grow or direction of how to do so.

    Pros

It stayed on top of the latest technology within reason. Employees are encouraged to improve processes by utilizing technology and reducing overall cost to the company and the environment. From an organization perspective I feel UHS is an excellent company with good financials. If you are part of upper management it is very lucrative.

    Cons

IS Department morale is low overall. Management is never content with the work that is performed by the teams. Many of us put between 50 and 60 hours on average a week and get little or no merit increase at the end of the year. We are told telecommuting is not allowed, so everyone has to come in the office for 40 hours. However, just about everyone in IT/IS work from home to keep up with the work load past the 40 hours. We are constantly reminded that we are lucky to have a job! The department/company wasn't always this way. . . Lot has changed in the last 5 years!

    Advice to Management

Upper Management has no clue what goes on in the department at least in IT/IS from my experience. Perhaps, they should have conversations with the employees and not just the Directors and VPs.

    Pros

I honestly can't say anything positive about this organization

    Cons

Leadership lacks direction and communication abilities. People are treated and expected to act like mind-reading robots.

    Advice to Management

Allow the folks you hire to do their job. Be more communicative in providing constructive criticism rather than being destructive.

    Pros

don't have any pros to give about this company

    Cons

They lie about your performance. They buy the company and rid of the longer term excellent employees with lies so they leave without unemployment and hire new college graduates for pennies. They will ruin your long term career!! Beware

    Advice to Management

Apply what you preach. The culture of this company is the worst!

    Pros

There is lots of potential for overtime. Raises are predictable and consistent (for the most part), if low, however expect those who are being hired in to make more than you, even if you have been with the company for years.

    Cons

The environment is toxic. You will suffer physical and mental abuse. Taking time off is nearly impossible if you are good at your job. If you excel you will be promised promotion and never given a raise until you finally quit. They remain understaffed on some of the most challenging shifts due to their insanely high turnaround. This results in situations that result in no one getting a break for 16 hour shifts. They are neither respectful nor appreciative of their employee's and the CEO and upper management are verbally abusive and use the individuals who work the hardest for them. The turnaround is caused by both this and constant firings when inevitable situations arise with residents due to tired staff and short staffed units. There is no job security here even though they cannot manage to keep people. I worked here for a year out of my two years here waiting on the promise of an interview and saw several others (particularly men) with less experience and more overall complaints promoted within weeks- while I was still holding a supervisory position. They acknowledge the fact that the environment is unbearable by attempting to make you sign a 'no lawsuit' agreement.

    Advice to Management

Consider showing more appreciation for your employees. Show respect for those under you. Do not cut the allowable amount of floor staff for the sake of profit. Focus on safety and not profit.

    Pros

Rapid turnover with low level jobs like mental health techs and nurses jobs opening up all the time when people leave or get fired.

    Cons

Profit and risk management are priorities 1 and 2. Patient care and employee satisfaction distant 3rd and 4th. The best word to describe your day is "fear." Fear of always getting fired. Everyone looks scared. Administration doesn't care about employee morale. Even the doctors are not safe. Administration constantly hounding them to increase patient length of stay when the patient doesn't need to be there anymore. It's kind of sickening and morally perverse. Patients beg to leave and can't until insurance is bled dry. Administration shamelessly promotes each other to made up and new positions to get salary increases. You're not going to advance in this company.

    Advice to Management

Get your priorities straight. Yes you can make a profit and provide good patient care. Yes employee morale does matter.

    Pros

Fast paced challenging environment. Opportunity for growth and increased knowledge.

    Cons

Male focused environment. Little opportunity for women to be advanced into senior management roles. Personal responsibility for actions is not a focus. High turnover rate. Young immature staff.

    Advice to Management

Consider keeping employees engaged with the organization by making it a better place to work and not by making promises of promotion.
