I have been working at Universal Protection Service

    Pros

If you are hired and don't have a guard card, they help you obtain one and it is not too expensive.

If you have your own transportation, they tend to assign you better posts.

Even if you are new, as long as you carry yourself well they will assign you to some top tier locations.

    Cons

While it may be easy to get a job with the company, the posts they offer may not be the best.

If you rely on public transportation, that may pose a problem.

It is somewhat difficult to get a hold of management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to get back with employees sooner when presented with questions and issues.

    Pros

They have improved a lot and have grown as a company. Their intentions are good.

    Cons

The company is a bit disorganized and cheap when it comes to pay, yet i believe many security companies are as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better staffing in your office. Communicate with your client and the Management through your company working with that client. Contacting the customer service office (even as management) you can never get through to HR or any people in management. Best way is through email and a lot of times, responses are not received.

I have been working at Universal Protection Service full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Universal Protection Service has some decent things going for it. There is a broad spectrum of contract sites meaning that officers have a selection if there isn't a good fit and there are plenty of opportunities for officers to work close to where they live.

    Cons

UPS growth puts it in a precarious place. Upper management is under pressure to fill positions that generally pay only a few dollars more than minimum wage, yet the expectation of performance from the officers has increased. It's not technically UPS' fault, since the client accounts specify the value of the position, but you get what you pay for. The demand strips the supply and frequently a pulse and a clean background are all that you need to get you in the door. This exacerbates the scheduling problems that seem to plague the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's better to sell quality at the upfront. When giving an RFP, sales needs to stress that yes... so and so security will do it cheaper, and you'll get crap officers. Do it with UPS and you'll pay a few bucks more, but you'll have officers whom you can count as an asset. Make sure your FTMs and Operations Managers aren't overloaded and listen to real world solutions that will correct the problem internally, rather than hemorrhage quality people because the system won't change for the better.
