    Bad politics, but good hours

    Security Officer (Former Employee)
    Williamsburg, VA

ProsWhen I first started with the company, it was Security Forces Inc. They were bought out by Universal Protection Service. That's when things went south. The attitude of management was not concerned with the employees. We lost our paid vacation, and I was paying twice as much for my health insurance. Good hours but at what cost?

ConsWages did not adjust for inflation or experience. I was moved out of my site that I had worked for 10 years because of politics. I was assaulted by a resident at a site, and I filed charges. Turns out that resident was on the HOA board (who also, according to contract, could hire or fire anyone with or without reason). As soon as his probation was up, I was moved to a less desirable site (where people were fired for walking on the grass, overworked and underpaid, no raises in years). When I asked questions about this I was told to shut my mouth and take the money, stop causing trouble. I found employment elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou guys need to treat your people better, especially when they have a valid complaint. Raises should be in line with inflation and productivity. Stick by your employees, especially when they do the job you asked them to. Don't cave to politics.

    Full-time work at part-time pay

    Shift Supervisor (Current Employee)
    North Atlanta, GA

ProsMany different job sites to work at with a variety of responsibilities, a lot of opportunities for overtime.

ConsLow pay for the demands of the job, benefits are not as "great" as advertised, turnover rate of employees is high, expect to be bugged (3-6 phone calls) on your off days about covering shifts, very little room for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementCurrent pay rate does not inspire employees to stick around, people are willing to put up with a whole lot more if they're being paid well.

    Professional; weird politics

    Security Guard (Current Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsOne of the best reasons for working here is there is no shortage of hours (at least not at the down town LA branch). Every post site has different pay, the best sites are the union high rises. This is a great company if you can do what is expected of you and not goof around.

ConsThe politics at a few post sites is really off putting. Being an outsourced employee is always difficult, but being between UPS and a client site can be tough when receiving conflicting information from both sides.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be very helpful if management would oversee supervisor meetings. Make it clear that it is illegal for client sites to dictate to UPS supervisors into intimidating employees for the sake of work functionality. It is proven that employees who feel validated and in a community work better, take less days off, and stay with their employers longer.

expect a lot, offer only a little

    Security Guard (Current Employee)
    Santa Ana, CA

Pros-Possible to get 40-80 hours a week if you are persistent
    -Start at 11$ an hour(2014)
    -

Cons-Each post offers different pay(could start at 11 then get 9 at next post)
-Hours usually aren't steady and will be asked to do shifts right after yours sometimes if you want overtime.
-Takes a while to find a permanent post and if you dont call them everyday they will forget about you and leave you on call.
-Lot of night shifts and posts could be up to 30 miles away
-No room for advancement unless you luck out with a good posts(some start at 12-14 if they are lucky with a permanent post right away)
-Every post is unarmed they do not have any posts for armed to my knowledge unless you have 10 years of military/police/security exp.
-And most posts are just boring so be sure to atleast have a smart phone.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake 11$ the base pay for all posts and give better posts to the people who have been working there the longest. Also train security guards for armed security and get more armed posts(pay is better for those posts).
