I have been working at Universal Protection Service full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Compensation is fair, and they have regular assignments. Fellow officers are decent people and there is mutual respect given the type of employment this is.

    Cons

Training can be either over the top or non existent. Much of the training is mental regulating to the type of job and the point of view you must adopt being a "security professional" However trying to get an acknowledgment of a text or a message sent to managers is past ridiculous! This is across the board!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show your employees you value them by communicating with them on a regular basis, not just when you want something from them, like to cover a shift. Then all of a sudden they remember you are in the world. You will continue to have major shrinkage until you learn how to at least acknowledge the core your business.

I have been working at Universal Protection Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is always room for personal growth. It is up to the officer on how they intend to pursue their work ethics, leadership, and abilities. Dedication, hard work, teamwork, and leadership are essential not only for a security officer, but for any employee no matter the profession. Yes, compensation depends on the type of site an officer is assigned to. Every site is not a $10.00 an hour site. Duties vary per site, per client needs. Officer should never solely focus on compensation of a site. This could influence their performance of their duties for their site. They fall prey to complaining and judgments. Security is not a one person island. It takes every officer and personnel in management to provide a competitive and valued service to each and every client.

    Cons

Work-life balance differs for every officer. Officers have children, are caregivers, students, work other part-time jobs; whatever their life entangles, there is a site to fit the needs an officer. The on-site supervisor will work with the officer, but the officer must in-turn work with the supervisor (arriving to work on time, coming to work on scheduled days, and performing duties to the best of officer's abilities). Training is available for all new officers and existing officers. Each site entails proper training through personnel and existing officers. Safety training is provided to ensure every officer is properly and adequately enhanced and armed with the tools necessary to perform their duties. At UPS, every officers is given the opportunity to obtain a 401k plan, life insurance, paid vacations, and a bonus at the end of their year date the officer began just to name some of the perks as well as manager and supervisor positions.

I have been working at Universal Protection Service part-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you love working with people and assisting someone whenever they are in need, then this would be a great job for you. You receive a pay raise after you have made it to your year mark. Depending on your supervisor, they will work with you to make sure you have everything you need.

    Cons

If your looking for advancement, then this is not a good choice unless you can see yourself running your own mall. They also try an keep all of their employees from being full time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At times upper management can be a little confusing at times. If you ever have a question, then don't hesitate to ask them. They also have a tendency to micromanagement, but that of course happens at every job.

I have been working at Universal Protection Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you can answer your phone, you can get a lot of hours here. If you are African American, you have an awesome post in Vista at a place where you pretty much do nothing. If you are Latino, you have an awesome post in the Escondido area at a residential property where the guards all do nothing but watch Netflix. (Note to management notice a pattern here)

    Cons

I have been in the business of contract security for 16 years. I have never worked for a more racist company in those 16 years. Read above. No opportunity for advancement here. When they finally find you a permanent assignment. You are pretty much forgotten about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want good people hire them and give them opportunity. If all you want is a warm body on a cold post let your people know that in the beginning.

I have been working at Universal Protection Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coworkers are amazing, many different posts, Pay is decent for most posts.

    Cons

Lack of communication, terrible benefits package, vacations are based on your post not offered by Universal, little to no room for advancement, does not help in any way or fashion to excel your learning opportunities. Very basic bare minimum level II security training. Management is not very organized, consistently losing contracts, Upper management turnover is very high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the goals of your employees and offer to at bare minimum pay for continuing certifications in order to move up. Communication and organization needs to be improved drastically. Annual bonus should be paid regardless of whether the employee has taken vacation or not.
