    Pros

    Helping the citizens of the United States get help to afford better telecommunications services for all Schools, Libraries, Rural Health Care, Low Income and High Cost areas. Great training advantages offered.

    Cons

    Having to be a not-for-profit that answers completely to the US Government (FCC) can be awkward at times.

    Create better career advancement for all employees in all departments.

    Pros

    Overall, the work environment and people are great. Benefits are outstanding. Location in the city is ideal.

    Cons

    Quasi Governmental organization that is not fully in control of their future. It can be very frustrating working (waiting) with the FCC.

    Pros

    The company provides a wonderful environment & culture. They appreciate their employees and it makes a pleasure to come to work.

    Cons

    They deal with typical challenges for any non-profit which means things move at their own pace. Some people certainly have more to do than they should.

    Pros

    The benefits are very good. Location is great for urbanites.

    Cons

    Leadership needs to be turned over - their management style is more good old boys and yes men. There is little patience for anyone who they think rock the boat. New ideas die a slow death. IT systems are done on the cheap. Raises are a pittance and promotions are political.

    Management would not read these suggestions and definitely think they know all they need to know already.

    Pros

    The people are nice. It's easy to get started and the work itself is not too challenging. There are a lot of new openings all the time. There is a good chance of upward mobility. Time-off policies are very good.

    Cons

    Technology is outdated, there are many people at work who do not have much to do. Job gets boring after a while because there's not much happening. Things become monotonous.

    Upper management is complacent.

    Pros

    This company has a lot to offer. A great benefits package, a great work/life balance, and lots of opportunities for driven individuals to learn new skills and try new things. Right now, however, the bad outweighs the good. It's hard to focus on all of the potential this company has, when HR and the leadership team have some problems that need addressing. Once the problems are addressed, I would recommend this company to ANYONE and EVERYONE.

    Cons

    This company has grown significantly, and the HR and leadership teams are not prepared/equipped to lead a company of 400. My worry is that they don't see the problems. The problems don't have to do so much with the work. The biggest issues are related to retaining the amazing talent that you have here. The recruiting team brings in great talent, and there is already great talent within these doors, but there is no career path, there are poor managers, and due to no career pathing and poor management, there is a lack of promotions and advancement to incredibly deserving employees. There are open positions at USAC because people are leaving to find a company that truly cares about their future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    My advice is to address the problems. They won't be fixed quickly, but the solutions are there. Focus on your employees. Show them you care not by sending them to trainings and conferences, or raffling off an iPad, or holding a social event - show them you care by putting energy into their futures. Develop a career path for each individual employee. Teach managers that one of their core jobs is to care for the future of each employee that reports to them. And then hold managers accountable for the career paths of each employee that reports to them. Hold the C-level/senior staff accountable for holding the managers accountable for caring about employees futures. The care will trickle down. Step back from the day to day and look at the people around you. Forget what the FCC or Congress is saying today, and focus on those that are working so hard for you. You need to show employees that you care for their futures and that they have a career to look forward to at USAC. Do that, and you'll have the largest bunch of talented, dedicated, and motivated employees you could ask for.

    Pros

    CEO and leadership level management was great and always shares information and make a reasonable decision (i believe.) USAC has an Internal web site to write an anonymous question/suggestion to CEO directly then he replied any questions.
    Benefits are good such as telecommuting once a week (depends on department) and medical insurance cover 99% (employee only pays $$ per paycheck).
    Many chances to learn something new or join education benefit was the best ever.

    Cons

    No bonus or annual salary negotiation. Everything about paycheck is tie on federal gov.

    Hard to get things on the table for management to review. There needs to be more higher-level roles so that all areas are receiving adequate attention.

    I have been working at Universal Service Administrative Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    The company has benefits that are pretty much unheard of – 11% of salary (on top of the full salary that you receive) deposited into a 401K regardless of how much the employee contributes, very robust medical, dental and vision insurance coverage all for $10/month. In addition, there are guaranteed training for every employee and opportunities to continue your education. The vacation time policy is very good and work/life balance is great. There are people who care about the purpose of the company and genuinely want to do right to run the fund in a financially responsible manner.

    Cons

    I’ve found management has suffered. I see employees being promoted to positions and then either can’t or won’t perform all of the duties traditionally associated with the position. When this happens a large load falls on the people who report to that person, which they are expected to complete despite often vague or non-existent direction from their manager. Then when things are completed, it is the manager who gets all the accolades. Another problem that I have seen lately is a marked increase in the appearance of faction within teams. Those in the in-group often make the others feel left out or even ostracized. This has resulted in multiple division transfers recently. Given the number of such transfers lately, it feels like upper management is willfully ignorant in this situation. In addition, if you do not spend time cultivating a relationship with the COO, you can expect your chances for advancement to drop significantly. Without this relationship, even employees who have been here for a significant amount of time and have proven themselves many times over can be expected to wait years to see a promotion.

    I have been working at Universal Service Administrative Company full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    We have amazing benefits - 11% into your 401K with no employee contribution, $5 Health Care per pay period, eductional & training benefits, and EXTREMELY flexible work schedules. You can choose to work 80 hours in 9 days with your 10th day off, telecommute once weekly, or telecommute as needed. There are very few people who work over 40 hours a week! The HR team is always working hard to make USAC the best possible work environment.
    Generally speaking, coworkers are very respectful of each other. Everyone is open and approachable.

    Little to no growth opportunities in some departments
