Good, but high risk of career stagnation

Analyst De L'nformatique (Current Employee) Quebec, QC (Canada)

ProsVery good personal/professionnal life. Access to sport equipments for cheap. Nice place to start a career.

ConsDecisions are highly political. Do not expect career advancement whatsoever. Managers are clueless about employee performance. It means good employees are treated the same way as bad ones. The workplaces are horrible (no a/c). Don't expect to be recognized for your good work.

At first I was very proud to work for a University, but I quickly had a reality check and found a pathetic place to work. 80%+ employees are only there to cash in their salary until retirement time.

New ideas and innovations are discouraged. People put more energy on complaining then on working. They all are dreaming about retiring the sooner they can.

Finally, union is absolutely unnecessary and prevent good employees to be rewarded. They are only protecting old workers retirement by cutting young professional benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't know...There are too many things to change. It's hopeless.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Université Laval is a fun and rewarding place to work, with many opportunities.

Research Assistant (Current Employee) Quebec, QC (Canada)

ProsLarge community, lots of potential to meet new people and build a team of like minded researchers.

ConsAdministration can be tedious and overly complex.

Working for the benefits... that's it...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood salary. Good benefits. Good pension funds.

ConsEmployees are unionized, so seniority is more important than competence. Hard to get a permanent position if you don't have the "good" diploma. Employees rule the place not the supervisors. Not much work to do. People are often on their coffee break. I would say that 20% of the people work and the other 80% aren't doing much... This is the sad truth, that no one really want to hear ou talk about.

Advice to Senior ManagementProfessors should not be administrators. They don't know a thing about human resources and how to manage employees or deal with conflicts. No wonder why so many people get sick in this place.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
