    Negative Outlook

I worked at University Medical Center (Las Vegas) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent shift-10 hrs/4 day work week. Established days off. Facility closed on weekends. Overall, good people to work with. Good benefits. Providers do a good job. Patient satisfaction scores are generally good.

    Cons

Poor management Style- Good ole boy system, nepotism Light yrs behind in Technology Poor evaluation process-staff do self evaluation and merit is not awarded to those who go the extra mile but routinely based on policy. Evaluations serve no purpose, maybe that's why mgt. doesnt take the time to do them! Problems presented to mgt aren't addressed. Instead, individual(s) bringing them up are either berated or turned on to believe they are part of the problem. No investigation, decisions made based solely on managers opinion. If you're in mgt good graces- you are given privilege well beyond your job description

    Advice to Management

Over hall management. Hire people on abilities and education not because they've been employed for yrs @ UMC or they are well connected with other mgt people who make the decision. Have a evaluation process in place for all managers that includes input from the staff they oversee. Have mandatory training required of mgt. To continue to hold their mgt position.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at University Medical Center (Las Vegas) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to get exposure to a wide variety of surgical procedures. Staff is knowledgeable and willing to teach if you are willing to learn.

    Cons

Tensions can run high between management and staff. While this is a teaching hospital there is not a well defined training program.

    Advice to Management

While listening to your staff is a great thing be mindful of the fact that the ones who complain the most are usually only doing so to get out of doing work.

I worked at University Medical Center (Las Vegas) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The doctors are fantastic to work with. - Patients are very thankful and generous. - Benefits are best if you are a long term employee and plan on working here until you retire.

    Cons

    - Management is a complete and total mess. - Poor work ethic bogs down the process of getting patients in for education and evaluation. - Gossip is encouraged by management and not discouraged. - Poor communication skills between staff. - Getting paid time off is impossible your first year of employment, so make sure never to need time off for appointments. - The health insurance offered is actually quite horrible.

    Advice to Management

Bring in real management who can handle the idea of firing people who are not conducive to the work environment. This place is not where you come to hang out with your friends, it is a workplace. And, in general, stop being so childish.

I worked at University Medical Center (Las Vegas) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

University Medical Center is a teaching hospital. I worked in the eleven bed, Level 1 Trauma Resuscitation Unit. Amazing co workers, flexible schedule. Hugely rewarding. Working as a floor nurse at this hospital is a totally different experience, and one I am not able to comment first hand on.

    Cons

Three 12hr shifts can be tough especially if they are busy.
