Decent employer, can be hard to progress in non-academic roles

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Aberdeen, Scotland (UK)

ProsOffers a good salary for administrative roles, with an excellent work/life balance. Depending on your job, you can have plenty of variety day to day. For the most part, the colleagues are great to work with.

ConsIt can be extremely difficult to progress upwards when you start in the lower grades in a non-academic position. There is a "promotion exercise" once a year but so many people apply that it is tough to be noticed.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo more to promote internally - opportunities at lower grades are few and far between.

    Administration at University of Aberdeen

Project Officer (Current Employee) Aberdeen, Scotland (UK)

ProsI'm working on an externally funded project, on a short-term contract. For anyone whose contract is ending, the University has a pretty good redeployment programme including professional development.

ConsOffice space is not always ideal. There is an on-campus nursery, but it is quite difficult to get a space there. Not all buildings have a staff room and it can be tricky to find a space to meet outside of your office and away from students.

    Application for undergraduate studies

Student (Former Employee) Aberdeen, Scotland (UK)

ProsAdmission requirements are relatively low. No extraordinary things being taught but overall very positive experience. If you apply for petroleum related profession it is easy access for petroleum companies

ConsThe weather is extremely bad during the whole year with sun shining about 2 days per week. Lack of new technologies.
