I have been working at University of Alberta full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very friendly and collaborative environment. Open to your novel ideas and innovations. Good place to challenge your skills and desire to learn new technologies and apply them. I learned a lot and had so many challenges. If you are not afraid of challenges, it is a perfect place for you!

    Cons

I don't see any negative points here. Sometimes for requesting IT srvice you need to do many paper works which is time-consuming and cause delay in your work. But it is very understandable that any department has their own policies and procedures. So I don't see it as a negative thing.

I worked at University of Alberta full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Relaxed environment, stable work/life, good health benefits, credit for free courses. It's nice to be surrounded by young students, full of energy and life.

    Cons

Little room to grow. I could see myself 20 years down the road doing the same thing at the same position. I've known quite a few technicians and staff working there for life. I guess it's a good thing if you want a stable job and life, and can live with the same routine forever.

I have been working at University of Alberta full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is very serious about research, and the university has wonderful library services and data support. Other amenities are also satisfactory.

    Cons

The location is slightly isolated from other major cities except Calgary. Due to the location the university faces difficulty to invite top researchers to give talks on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope the university can consider strategic partnership with top Asian schools. This may help the university's overall reputation and attract more Asian students - good way to make money.
