I have been working at University of Arkansas part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Pays all your tuition!
    Work hours are very flexible.
Lots of opportunities to do cross-field work

    Cons

It's difficult to do research if you're a TA.
The position does not pay for student fees, so you'll need to do a payment plan most likely.

I have been working at University of Arkansas part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Experience in my field of study. Tuition paid. Stipend is just enough to pay my rent and bills.

    Cons

Not many. I know this varies widely by department and direct superior, but I had it pretty easy. Based on conversations I had with others, you should NOT expect the same!

I have been working at University of Arkansas full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is inspirational to work in a place that has so many cutting edge ideas floating around. Work-life balance is strongly encouraged and I have experienced tremendous support in my roles on campus.

    Cons

The biggest challenge is getting so much work into the 6 peak months of the year when the majority of students are on campus.

I have been working at University of Arkansas full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The University provides staff members with a large education discount for both themselves and their family members.
This allows faculty and staff to continue their education while working at the UofA.

    Cons

Salaries are not competitive but the University does offer great health and retirement benefits. Unfortunately, the cost to park on campus can cost upwards of $700 a year. Not a small amount based on the average UofA salaries.

I worked at University of Arkansas part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Holidays, Hours, Individuals, Pay is decent. Flexible is great. Great stipend and tuition reduction.

    Cons

Compensation considering how much rent cost, upper management looks down on graduate assistants, won't hire you on after degree completion due to "budget cuts." So no job security or bright outlook even if you did a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit the politics and know that your students and employees are what make the university great, not upper leadership.
