    Pros

Well, it's Italy after all. Wonderful surroundings, and possibly a good match for food-focused research.

    Cons

All the usual thinks you'll hear about Italian bureaucracy: slow, crappy, unefficient, sometimes mad.

    Advice to Management

Slim down the paperwork immediately, and inject some new forces in otherwise ancient mechanisms. Which one? All!

  2. Nice place, but few opportunities

    Pros

A rich learning experience of all the minor sports. An excellent opportunity to experience the sport in the full sense of the term.

    Cons

The functioning of sport in general in Italy is extremely messy. Practicing sports is left to young and old sports enthusiasts. Lacks managerial spirit.

    Advice to Management

clear ideas, programming skills and research skills of the human capital suitable to achieve long-term (2-3 years)

  11. Great research but you will have to move away when you finish your study/research period

Current Employee - Postdoctoral Fellow in Bologna (Italy)

I have been working at University of Bologna

    Pros

The level of research is every bit as good as the one carried out by the most prestigious Universities in Europe.

    Cons

The salary is not comparable to the most prestigious universities. Principal Investigators often do not reward your work properly even when it is good or outstanding. No career advance: after you finish your PhD it is almost impossible to become a professor with the consequence that you have to move away (and go abroad) to get what you deserve. Few or none connection between University and local industries.

    Advice to Management

Increase the salary, give career possibilities, create connections with industries or start-up companies.
