    Pros

Great training program. Over a month of paid training was invested into the role and you get the chance to engage with a plethora of different students all day, which is interesting.

    Cons

At present, I haven't seen any cons of working at UBC. They've got a good apparatus for incoming employees.

    Advice to Management

They should continue to invest in human capital management, as I believe that all of their employees have high potential for growth.

    Pros

Depending on your department UBC can be a very productive research environment if you seek it out. Computer Science, Engineering, Geophysics, Law, and Business in particular have great graduate programs.

    Cons

Sometimes the jokes in the Piled Higher and Deeper (PhD) web-comic are too close to the truth. Graduate students and post-docs can be treated like cattle. There is a UBC-wide lethargy that you have to fight. Make sure your project is clear from the outset otherwise this could add years to your graduation timeline.

    Advice to Management

Often experiments are run with very poor planning, which really affects the publishability and analysis of results. Graduate Pathways to Success classes for graduate students are extremely good resources to becoming. Student administration is archaic and terrible. It is the student's responsibility to seek out rules and deadlines by asking administration worker or there. They are either not written down or out-of-date. Submitting your thesis or dissertation is like dodging land-mines.

    Pros

The campus is really activity rich, and fun place to be.

    Cons

Too little learning/ intellectual stuff going on for too many of the students. But hei, we got a new fountain.

    Advice to Management

We definetely need more fountains. I think a science theme park will also be nice, with space ship rides etc.

Living cost in Vancouver is generally high due to the skyrocketed housing prices. Accordingly, student/on-campus housing is very expensive and hard to find.
