I have been working at University of Central Arkansas full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I was given the freedom to use my own ideas to solve tasks.
Everyone works together to accomplish tasks.
Leadership truly cares about their employees.
Hours are flexible to accommodate studies.

    Cons

Chic-Fil-A and Pizza Hut are downstairs (Student Center), which makes eating healthy difficult. This could also be seen as a Pro.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Student Center is doing things right. When I move on to work somewhere else, I will always remember this job fondly. Keep on this track and I feel that anyone to work here will feel the same. Thank you!

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas full-time

    Pros

It's a state job so you get a good 401k, 8 hours of vacation and sick time per month when starting. Great environment: overall local community of Conway Arkansas is a great place to live.

    Cons

Salaries tend to stay at entry level for a very long time, advancement only happens if you move from job to job by applying for new positions. It is very rare to advance in your own department without years and years of dedicated service. Faculty positions are very much the same with slow advancement in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay on top of cola raises and start doing more merit raises as well as one time bonuses.

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas

    Pros

The people working there care about all facets of the university. All departments work together to complete tasks and enjoy what they are doing.

    Cons

Some of the downsides of working at the University of Central Arkansas would include: funds are not very plentiful and some workers are older and not trying to advance in their field.

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas

    Pros

    Friendly coworkers
    Attractive campus
    Great community
    Supportive peers
    Flexible work schedule
Many people in the staff have been working there for years

    Cons

The pay is not the best, and raises are slow and small (but that's a government issue)
Not many great opportunities for advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the communication channels between the higher management and lower management. If not, then cut some off the levels in the middle to flatten the organizational structure.

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas

    Pros

The University has some of the best staff in the country. The atmosphere overall is very conducive to learning, and it is really exiciting to see the students eager to learn. The deans and administrators are very supportive, the campus is beautiful and the student enrollment increases every year.

    Cons

Some of the downsides of working for The University of Central Arkansas are the fact that it is in Conway and not as close to Little Rock, as one would like. That being said because it is a bit of a distance away from Little Rock, the crime rate is lower.

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas full-time

    Pros

Making a difference in the quality of life for Seniors. Having the freedom to be creative in my management style, being allowed to recruit and hire my own staff.

    Cons

Limited upward mobility, limited resources. Below industry - standard income. Demands of job can become 24/7, 7 days a week dealing with employee issues.

I have been working at University of Central Arkansas part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Wonderful school with lots of potential, small school + small town = great work life balance. If you are looking for opportunities to teach, broaden the minds of students, or help serve students in some capacity, this is the place to be.

    Cons

The only negative thing I have to say about working at UCA is the lack of communication. I hope that in the near future things get better in this arena, but the lack of communication between departments and employees can be avoided if you are proactive, if not, then it probably still won't diminish your experience too much. It's just a cultural norm to be silo'd, but if that doesn't bother you, then this school is awesome! :)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage communication! The students and entry level employees do not know or care who you are because you don't talk to them like you're on the same team.
