    Pros

UCF is a great university that is well known throughout the country for its research and partnershp initiatives. It is a competitive campus with well-published instructors and professors that teach in almost every college. It is almost like a small community, so there are tons of opportunities to move laterally within the University and its a great campus to work at.

    Cons

The President and Provosts care about one thing: the bottom line. They charge their employees to park on campus to go to work. I have never EVER heard of such a thing: paying to park at my job. They keep the campus open during slow periods over the summer or during holiday breaks, which makes its employees miserable. It seems as though they do not care at all about their staff and regular employees. Perhaps they care a little for their tenured professors, as this gives the University a better image, but they could care less about the so-called "little people" that work with students in other facets.

    Advice to Management

CARE ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES! Don't have the campus opened on Christmas Eve- that is appalling. Allow staff and employees to work from home or have shortened office hours over the summer when student attendance is low. Show your employees you CARE about them by rewarding them with better benefits and more university holidays.

    Pros

    Benefits are pretty solid.
Lots of vacation time if you can get it approved between projects
    Very understanding of family life.
Good place to grow into new technology roles.

    Cons

Pay has gotten better, but still doesn't match market rate.
No real direction or priority being set by leadership.
Project management and change management are haphazard at best.
Work/life balance is hit or miss.

    Advice to Management

    Fix IT Governance
Sort out what the priorities are and get ahead of the ball rather then always scrambling to figure out what's next.

    Pros

Health insurance is OK, pay is flexible and can be competitive. Also, raises are an option, although few ask for them.

    Cons

Many of the fringe benefits are not as good as you might imagine. Although beautiful, the gym membership can be considered representative of these: the gym is underfunded and far over capacity. The insurance lacks 'grown up' coverages such as pregnancy.

    Advice to Management

Graduates are very poorly represented on this campus, both as students and employees. If UCF hopes to attract top graduate talent, it needs to mitigate this.

    Pros

Easily one of the best place and positions a student can work.
Growing University with Opportunities abounding for everyone.
Great environment of learning and growth.

    Cons

Traffic and parking can be terrible.
Administrative delays in some departments can be frustrating.
Huge bureaucratic environment, you may feel more like a number to the University as either an employee or a student.

    Advice to Management

Continue current strategy of growth and increasing partnerships. Improve student awareness from early on of opportunities and assistance provided. Continue marketing growth and opportunity to prospective new students and employees.
