I worked at University of Central Missouri part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The best part about working at UCM was the staff that I got to work along next to. I had amazing professors that were very supportive. The hours were very flexible and catered to my class schedule.

    Cons

I honestly have none to report.

I have been working at University of Central Missouri full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, treated like a professional

    Cons

Salary, they really need to pay folks more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay market rate. It is disturbing to be training students will get paid more than I for their entry level jobs.

    Pros

Has great faculty and staff who are caring and engaged. There are many great opportunities at UCM to excel. Allows students to work while still putting school first.

I don't have any cons! It is a great place for students to work.

I worked at University of Central Missouri as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

From day 1 as a student to my final day at a GA, I felt like I was a part of a family. Everyone wanted to see you succeed. Staff and professors are great to work with and the campus community comes together for so many events and projects.

    Cons

Some departments are nervous about change and new ideas. They are starting to take risks, I just wish it didn't take as long for them to realize the growth potential.

I worked at University of Central Missouri part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I had great coworkers, and it really felt like a family, or a team pulling together. Nice campus, and the airport is really growing (worked in the aviation department). I loved the fact that several times a week, students and faculty would all go to lunch together. It created a really great working atmosphere. While the aviation department has seen a rough few years, it's really turning around lately, thanks to new leadership.

    Cons

The department chair and dean at the time were absolutely horrible, but hooray, they're gone now! some of the airplane fleet were also dated. Some of the airport flight operations supervisors also have negative opinions about flight instructors who did not train at UCM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The on-campus experience was great, but at the airport, there was a distinct impression that a non-UCM trained flight instructor was inferior to a UCM trained instructor. As a result, they were not afforded the same opportunities (such as being allowed to instruct in multi-engine aircraft), treated with equal respect (yelling at an instructor in front of their student for a minor infraction such as a momentarily untucked shirt tail is not appropriate), or generally made to feel a part of the organization (I was flat out told I was an inferior CFI solely because I had not trained at UCM and would threrefore never be good enough). This attitude then filtered down to the students too, creating a sense of entitlement in some of them, and hostility between those who had trained at UCM and the "outsiders."

You great a raise every semester you work.
