I worked at University of Chicago

    Pros

People are super smart and open minded.

    Cons

Salary was low. But it was an academic environment, so it was understandable. On the flip side, the university offered a lot of side benefits (gym, library, health, etc.)

I have been working at University of Chicago full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits
    Compensation
    Ability to move up
    Leadership possibilities
    Multicultural
    Wonderful people
    Safe work environment
    Once hired nice job security
Considered non profit for student loan repayment

    Cons

Location safe, but technically south side
In order to move up you really have to stand out, but very possible if you're hard working
Easy to conform, so many do and then complain about not moving up

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some departments need better management and organization.
Others are great as they are.

I have been working at University of Chicago part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The Crime Lab works on interesting projects and everyone who I've interacted with is very professional and efficient. People are dedicated to the research projects they work on. I worked mostly independently in high schools across the city and the Crime Lab paid for my transportation. The work they do is fascinating, and the people are all friendly and public service minded.

    Cons

This is a great company to work for and I can't think of any cons. I worked here during college and they were very flexible with working around my schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    No changes needed.

I worked at University of Chicago

    Pros

It's a rich academic environment with a diversity of thought leaders in a lot of disciplines. There are a lot of great people who love what they do and care deeply about helping others learn. Exactly what you'd hope for in a healthy University environment.

    Cons

It's made some pretty seriously financial investments that will hopefully pay off. TBD.

I worked at University of Chicago

    Pros

As a part-time student worker, I had great flexibility of hours and opportunities to take on projects of my choosing. They're very willing to give you time for personal reasons and for classes, while also letting you pursue things you want to work on.

    Cons

No real cons for a student worker -- the work-life balance was good, as was compensation at $12 per hour. However, there's no real way to move up or join after graduation.

I have been working at University of Chicago full-time

    Pros

This is a world class university, especially in my area. Generally, there are lots of opportunities to meet brilliant colleagues and to collaborate. Critical thinking is especially strong at this university: no assumption will be left unquestioned.

    Cons

This is a world class university. That means a lot of very competitive people, some of whom are ready to use pretty unsavory tactics to stay on top.

    Pros

Very hierarchical but great support structure, good management, high expectations, fast-paced environment, often working evenings and weekends, ample paid time off, many opportunities for personal growth

    Cons

Very hierarchical, you will likely have several people to report to, lots of red tape to go through when trying to make changes, a lot of institutional bias and adversity to change
