I worked at University of Cincinnati part-time

    Pros

Many smart faculty to work with that will help you grow intellectually. The campus is a beautiful environment to work in every day.

    Cons

Research funding isn't always there. There are not many good food options on campus. You can always walk about 10 minutes off of campus for lunch.

    Advice to Management

Keep practicing current techniques and allowing researchers to explore the area without micromanaging.

    Pros

They pay at beginning of month the entire salary for student's in research fellowship.

    Cons

There really are no downsides to research, as it is an opportunity for researchers to contribute to society by solving problems which have not yet been solved.

    Advice to Management

None. The company is a place of learning so keep teaching and all will be fine by me.

I have been working at University of Cincinnati full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Unbeatable benefits (don't pay SS, in addition to 10% contribution for retirement I make, UC puts an extra 13% in). College I work at is laid back but productive.

    Cons

A little to political and politically correct

    Advice to Management

Support employee's career goals and training / conferences being sought

I have been working at University of Cincinnati full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

friendly environment, beautiful campus, good instruments-libraries, skilled staff and knowledgeable professors, cheap city for living, four season weather, relatively good connections with large industries around the city

    Cons

budget reduction for research, in my opinion not the best way of distributing budgets, not much budget for graduate students participating in nation/international scientific conferences while there is a huge budget for cultural activities. not the safest campus.

I have been working at University of Cincinnati (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits: health, dental, vision insurance; retirement fund; summer-free for some professors; some discount in the bookstore and in public bus (go-metro)

    Cons

Some departments judge instructors by one specific quantity of the end-of-semester evaluations: the "overall rating as a professor" without regard to other quantities and actual comments. It ends in some instructors offering extra-credit to students to fill up the evaluation and to give them that specific rating. They do it even if the evaluations are anonymous and they do it by asking students for screenshots. Another con is that the way they react to the State decision to cut the budget based on graduation rates. Some departments just lowered the standards of passing in order to "retain the students" while others build some "remedial" programs to increase back the "students' scores."

    Advice to Management

If the State cuts budget for the school, they can just take the lower amount of aid and have cuts somewhere else instead of pressuring the academic departments to play the chasing game of producing false outputs and sense of "retention."
