    Pros

I have obtained the following during my time at UC: Training, continuing education, leadership skills.
I have worked in medical sciences and there is great opportunity to learn from your peers and the professors.

    Cons

The biggest cons is interference of HR in determining salary for various positions. I feel I am underpaid for my skills. And my Professor was not able to pay me as high as she wanted to as HR did not allow it.
The department admin also interferes with everything that is ordered by different research groups, and gives you cheaper alternatives, even if you don't like them. Since the Professor is using their own allocated money to pay for this, this should not be an issue. however it is. The University HR seems very stingy.
Also, the health insurance benefits have dropped in what they used to provide initially when I started. It has become more expensive. You have to pay higher co-pays and you can not use you local pharmacy to fill regular prescriptions. The online pharmacy has a lot of issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider improving salaries according to qualifications.
Professors and bosses should have more say in determining salary, rather than HR.
There should be less interference from the department in what is ordered by a research group.
Also, health insurance benefits need to be greatly improved. The co-pays for doctor visits and medication refills are rising every year.

    Pros

Exciting university. A top research institute with impressive ambitions and achievements. Largest employer in Cincinnati and a wide variety of colleges and students. Also a beautiful urban campus.

    Cons

Work is continually heaped upon existing staff as responsibilities increase and departing employees are not replaced. Everyone tells everyone else how to run their jobs. Quantity is more important than quality. Pay is a tad low considering that the university is a public nonprofit funded by the state government. Budget cuts occur annually. The workload is frantic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the employees who are doing outstanding jobs. Do not sacrifice quality for quantity because it will only be detrimental to the university in the end. Realize that supervisors are often the biggest hindrance to better performance and to team-player dynamics.
