    Great Times at the DSO

Student Assistant (Current Employee) Gainesville, FL

ProsVery flexible schedule, friendly co-workers, and lots of free food.

ConsVery low pay but I think that has to do with minimum wage and the fact it was work-study.

    Advice to Senior ManagementHigher wages!

Students work hard which makes it a pleasure to teach.
People in general are very friendly and helpful around UF.

ConsThere seems to be some favoritism with certain people.
Pay is not enough to pay bills each month, but tuition is free.

    Electrical Engineering Teaching Assitant

Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) Gainesville, FL

ProsI was paid a reasonable wage given the responsibilities of the position, including grading all assignments / quizzes, and tests.

ConsThe pay is not great (as a teaching assistant), but as I said before is commiserate with the duties of the position.

    Benefits and retirement are great.

Computer Support Analyst (Current Employee) Gainesville, FL

ProsBenefits and retirement are worth the red tape.

ConsLeft hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in the larger departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork in the area you have experience, don't hire people just because they have a degree. Training is available for leadership classes, but the people who need the classes do not attend them.

    Graduate Hall Director (Residence Life)

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThis was the best job I've ever had. The leadership supports development among professional and student staff and residents, and there is great recognition of the variety of ways a staff member can contribute to the mission of the department. It's also a very friendly and fun work culture. I learned SO much in the GHD role!

ConsRequired to be responsible during "off" hours for on-calls and consultation with staff members in crises. There is plenty of staff support and flexibility to make this manageable.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing! I know my exit interview suggestions, though minor, were well-heard. You always keep your staff in mind, and it's appreciated!

    TA

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEasy and flexible. Allowed a great deal of freedom.

ConsNot much direction. With the flexibility came a lack of leadership and instruction.

Wonderful people to work with, always looking to improve the student experience.

Marketing & Design Student Manager (Current Employee) Gainesville, FL

ProsThe people are very passionate about what they do, from working with students to providing for the Union as a whole. Everyone is very friendly, the location is great (it's in the middle of campus), and I was happy with the salary.

ConsThe bureaucratic system that keeps higher education afloat. Sometimes there was just too much red tape.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Proswonderful life/work balance UF provides great support for students who are willing to work and provides them with a great platform for success

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBeautiful campus and the weather can't be beat.

ConsPARKING! PARKING! PARKING! You have to pay a yearly fee, but there's not spots guaranteed. It's a mess.
