I worked at University of Florida for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to teach. Yes, you are slave labor, but experience is experience. They run classes day and night, so take your pick.

    Cons

Sink in swim attitude in the graduate English program. No support. Inadequate funding, no parking. Intellectual level is seriously lacking. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. What a disappointment, and waste of time!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your slave labor!

I have been working at University of Florida full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Large university, lots of opportunities for collaboration. Gainesville is a great small town to live in and raise the family, easy access to big cities and coast.

    Cons

Despite being a sunshine state, everything that happens in the College of Medicine is opaque. As a physician, trying to do what is good for the patient is challenging. There is old boys network culture here.

I have been working at University of Florida as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Very flexible schedule, friendly co-workers, and lots of free food.

    Cons

Very low pay but I think that has to do with minimum wage and the fact it was work-study.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Higher wages!

People in general are very friendly and helpful around UF.

    Cons

There seems to be some favoritism with certain people.

I worked at University of Florida part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I was paid a reasonable wage given the responsibilities of the position, including grading all assignments / quizzes, and tests.

    Cons

The pay is not great (as a teaching assistant), but as I said before is commiserate with the duties of the position.

I have been working at University of Florida full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Benefits and retirement are worth the red tape.

    Cons

Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in the larger departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work in the area you have experience, don't hire people just because they have a degree. Training is available for leadership classes, but the people who need the classes do not attend them.
