I have been working at University of Geneva full-time

    Pros

The payment is good if you don't live in Geneva.
    It's intellectually stimulating.
A lot of people speak English.
You can sit in on classes if you're interested, without enrolling or paying.

    Cons

Geneva is extremely expensive, so the salary is deceiving. Anything below 100K is not enough for a family. 69K is barely enough for one person, living in a shared housing.
Switzerland is more hierarchical than the US. So if you're moving from the US, be prepared to start using titles and formalities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Help people get apartments.
    - Have more mentorship in the university.

I worked at University of Geneva

    Pros

Facility with a great potential, good location, fantastic view!

    Cons

Less and less money for a research, management doesn't support qualified people if they are not recommended by a friend, small salaries. All in all, if you don't want to be stacked between your scientific career goals and bunch of "leeches", than it is not a good place for you.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at University of Geneva full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Conditions for research in Geneva, in Switzerland in general, are very good. There is a lot of money for instruments, equipment, projects. One gets a possibility to do serious reaserch and it is not limited by the resourses, to certain extent. Work team is good, very international, so one gets to interact with people from all over the world which helps to improve comunication skills.

    Cons

Real challenge is administration in case of foreigners. Sometimes way too complicated and time consuming. Training is sometimes not too well organized, depending on the person in charge.

I worked at University of Geneva

    Pros

    Flexible working hours. Stimulating environment

    Cons

Not a friendly working place. Many burnouts and some professors tend to psychologically harass their assistant and the admin people, it's known, but the university does not do anything about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make rules and make them respect also by the hierarchy.
