I have been working at University of Guelph full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Personal development, salary, work environment, mgt is genuine, students are better than most other programs in the area, food on campus is amazing, education is normally the focus (even of mgt, unless risk aversion is included in a decision)

    Cons

Location (Guelph is too far from Toronto, small town environment lacks culture), Union environment creates negativity where there doesn't need to be any, the rules from mgt often lack a learning focus, risk aversion is over the top - I am all for it, but not to this level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the focus on education. We are beginning to falter and take a risk averse, anti-learning approach to decision-making. Let's keep the students as our focus and make decisions based on students' best interests.

I worked at University of Guelph part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I worked with lots of great people, a very beautiful campus, mostly modern buildings, the campus is central i the city and close to downtown but also good for commuting, very clean and beautiful grounds.

    Cons

The parking is very expensive for Guelph, the motivation in the workers can sometimes be lackluster due to security in jobs and lack of incentives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide some incentives to make people work harder, more motivation. Most people do the bare-minimum. Classic problem with government/public sector employees
