I worked at University of Houston-Clear Lake

    Pros

20 hours a week schedule and very flexible, depending on your professor

    Cons

Pay is great if you are a foreign student, but if you are a domestic student it's not worth the time since they sign you as contract labor and don't mention that in the fine print.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be up from with student works about how the pay will not be employee vs contract labor.

I have been working at University of Houston-Clear Lake full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Atmosphere, wildlife on campus, easy parking, very laid back, very slow pace (which can also be a con if you need help meeting a deadline).

    Cons

Certainly the low pay which causes a high turnover. Student base is too small and therefore creates a lack of adequate revenue. Support staff make between $10-$15 per hour. Some have worked here 20+ years and still make a salary in the same $10-$15 range. Unbelievable.

Raises? None exist. Many people here have to work two jobs to make ends meet. Why do they stay? I'm not sure. Probably for the insurance coverage and extra paid holidays.

Also, there is no room for advancement since the campus is so small.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need you to go to bat for us to increase wages across the board. We can't do it ourselves and you give us the impression that you do not care. It's no wonder that morale is low, loyalty is not up to par, and people are exhausted from working two jobs. You should be ashamed. Help us please!

I have been working at University of Houston-Clear Lake full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Beautiful campus, lots of support form administration, good quality of life, This is a very safe campus.

    Cons

perpetually underfunded, salaries are not competitive, downward expansion being done with insufficient resources which puts a strain on all, the campus needs to have more buildings to accompany the growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get alternative funding sources and raise the salaries, put pressure on the legislature to adequately fund this university

I worked at University of Houston-Clear Lake part-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you get the right TA position then you're not worked to death, have time to work on your own classwork, get tuition benefits (for out of state or international students), and a small stipend. Also, you end up being "around" more, so you have additional access to professors.

    Cons

Be careful making sure that the hours work for you. Better to negotiate ahead of time rather than regret it for the whole semester.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    All good!
