Good place for students pursuing a graduate degree

Graduate Research Assistant (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsDepending on the department you can have flexible hours and work from home. This helps you organize your work schedule in a way that doesn't interfere with classes. If you are lucky to work in an project of your interest you can learn a lot.

ConsYou don't get to interact with many people. If you like to work in groups this is not the type of job for you. You have to be very organize in order to have work-life balance. Sometimes work can be overwhelming.

Poor pay and riddled with Bureaucracy

Visiting Research Specialist (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsMy specific grant funded job was great and I had a great boss. My specific unit and my colleagues were amazing and became good friends but working with the actual university was always difficult.

ConsThe University and its systems drove me mad with their inefficiency and disregard of employees. They pay very poorly and the non tenured professors recently went on strike due to the absurdly low pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the IRB and broken Bureaucracy offices that stifle creative and productivity and pay employees a fair wage commensurate with their education and experience.
