I have been working at University of Illinois at Chicago full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Performance expectations and metrics are low to non-existent. No one works a full day. No one EVER comes in on a weekend. Bright and competent people will neither be recognized nor rewarded, but it is extremely easy to get paid well for doing nothing here (or your second job...) if that's your aim. The ideal place for anyone who has given up on the American workplace as anything other than a sham that you can work to your favor.

    Cons

Chicago cronyism is the rule of the day. The University of Illinois system as a whole makes some of the all-time worst leadership hires on record and the place is in a constant state of flux/turmoil because of it. The day-to-day of education goes on as it always does and people do as little as possible to keep the doors open and the lights on, but by-and-large the system is an astonishing waste of our tax dollars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They wouldn't understand it even if they heard it.

    Pros

I loved my experience at the school because I joined groups and it is a very diverse environment with a great business school. With student employment it is usually not taxing and good hours.

    Cons

Administration is often difficult when working with student organizations.
