    Pros

Depends on the lab you are working on, a lot of down time at times. Smart people overall and you can learn a lot if you apply yourself.

    Cons

Have to find personal motivation to get things done, slow pace at times due to academic setting. Generally it is flexible work.

    Advice to Management

A lot of bureaucracy present in the management. Could possibly work on streamlining everything to be more smooth. It all depends on the department.

    Pros

Depending on your position, they equip you with a laptop to use which allows you the ability to work from home. Thus, if your contract is at 25% (i.e. 10 hours per week), it's nice not having to go into the office everyday.

    Cons

If you are a part-time employee, parking can be expensive.

    Pros

Tuition Reimbursement, benefits and pay is good. You get an increase every year.

    Cons

Union sucks, management sucks, not opportunity for professional growth if you are clerical. Testing qualifications are political. Environment is negative, they have bullies that have cliques that don't like change. No living increase, increase work responsibilities without proper notification.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees, listen to their advice and celebrate accomplishments.

I have been working at University of Illinois at Chicago part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are nice and friendly, generous and willing to help; The facility is spacious and the location is close to downtown and convenient to get access to CTA trains/buses.

    Cons

There is food court in the building, you have to go out to buy lunch. And to get access to a nice restaurant will cost 15-min walk.

    Advice to Management

Basically it is nice. A lot of projects are going on. And it would be better to have clear boundaries on RA assignments.

    Pros

Very easy about working around my school schedule and understanding if I needed extra time off to study. Coworkers were all very friendly and laid back, not a very stressful place to work.

    Cons

You're not getting paid a whole lot, but it was nice to have a little money in my pocket while going to school

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, but training people to possibly move up in the future would be awesome.
