I worked at University of Illinois at Chicago full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Offered some nice benefits with a PPO that had a maximum out of pocket medical expenses of $900 per year. However, that changed this year; the max is not $6,000. The rationale given is that more is covered. However, I would prefer a choice to keep the max per year lower.

    Cons

Much of the benefits is determined via their website. While helpful, there is a limited number of staff members to respond to questions.

I have been working at University of Illinois at Chicago full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great medical and dental benefits. Also, a few perks/discounts that can serve to be useful. This is a very diverse work culture. There is also plenty of room to work overtime if needed.

    Cons

Rare to receive annual raises on time, this will typically only come with the union getting involved. There is a major lacking of proper training, one must be a quick study as well as flexible and resourceful at any given time. Furthermore, a lot of working outside your job title and not a lot of compensation or gratitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better utilization of staff. Rewards should go towards those that truly have shown exceptional work. Needs to be sense of accountability taken in upper management, lead through example.

I worked at University of Illinois at Chicago full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Outstanding benefits, good pay, friendly work culture. Opportunities to take courses for free or at reduced tuition. Overall, the administrative, clerical and support teams are very helpful and work as teams. Motivation to keep going is built in every time you meet a student on campus or a patient at the hospital, because your reason to serve is always visible.

    Cons

Funding is always an issue, and fear of budget cuts is palpable on campus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is so much to overcome just dealing with being in a place with politics like Illinois and Chicago. Please keep people who have political savvy at the helm.

    Pros

Very flexible work schedule with supportive staff. There are weekly meetings and you get to listen to a lot of great music. Much of the music that you receive is sent directly from large promotion groups and record labels, so you do get direct music industry experience.

    Cons

There is not much training for the position and can often be too flexible. Because it is a student position, you work at minimum wage.
