    Fantastic!

Summer Intern (Former Employee) Leeds, England (UK)

ProsI was given excellent guidance, and was given task outlines perfectly. There was no shortage of work to do, though it was open ended, so I was given the freedom to expand on the projects as I wanted.

Very good 1 on 1 contact with supervisors of project.
Worked alongside many great PhD students who were friendly.

ConsSometimes it was too much of a quiet environment, but this was easily remedied, as I was free to move to any workspace that was on offer.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Good and efficient working

    PhD Researcher (Former Employee)

ProsIt is England so pretty well organised university. I did my PhD at the school of Chemistry. Technical staff was always very helpful.
Good location for hiking trips and great student atmosphere.
Decent modern equipment can be found all over university.
Campus is pretty close to city centre.

ConsIt is north of England so don't expect amazing weather. There can be sometimes high working pressure. Some labs and buildings are a bit old.

Prosexcellent location, laid back environment, ability to direct your own research, big push on research publication / conference travel / work in progress decimation. stipend is not too shoddy either.

Consthere are very few cons to speak of, campus life can be a little expensive, as can property rental in the city. Parking is non existent

    PhD researcher at the University.

PhD Researcher (Current Employee) Leeds, England (UK)

ProsThe University of Leeds offers an enjoyable environment and easy access to its staff in a great variety of department and competencies.

ConsLack of communication and information within staff. It can be difficult to get in touch with the person that one needs to talk to for a particular problem due to the lack of information given to researchers on the current staff, and who to contact.

    Decent working environment

    (Former Employee) Leeds, England (UK)

ProsFor many people the university is typical of many stable academic institutions and will offer its non-academic staff a pleasant working environment, ample holidays and plenty of interesting activities when off-the-clock. All in all, the university treats its staff reasonably and most people seem happy.

ConsRemuneration is definitely on the low side compared to working in the private sector, but this is typical of most universities. Only found out I had been 'opted out' of the pension a good while after the fact, without ever having been consulted. I was furious about this. Sometimes it can be tricky to get things to happen, especially with IT. Persistence and knowing where someone's office is can help when it gets too much!

Advice to Senior ManagementLook into why some people have been 'opted out' of the pension system involuntarily. It would seem to be a serious breach of the rules.
