Good university, but outdated buildings and behind in technology

I have been working at University of Leuven

    Pros

Excellent service to students, cheap, high scientific standards.

    Cons

Most building are old and outdated. However that's often the case in Belgium. Belgium is also behind technology-wise.

I have been working at University of Leuven part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good values, adapted schedule, exceptionnal co-workers.
The Uni is very competitive in the Belgian sector and well-known through Europe
    Contacts are easy to make

    Cons

Too focused on innovation rather than keeping the conservative path of the institution

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, don't hesitate to ask for our opinion as "inside worker", we sometimes may have some brilliant idea about developping the educational system in the Uni

I have been working at University of Leuven full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Challenging projects on the edge of technology, good atmosphere, access to a lot of knowledge through paper databases or experienced people.

    Cons

Working alone on project most of the time, not enough coaching and feedback, slow progress in project, not enough technical support during developments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

provide more feedback moments, hire more technical staff for support of projects instead of making the researchers do this work

I have been working at University of Leuven

    Pros

The university has good facilities for conducting research and its professors have well developed knowledge in their field. It also offers flexibility in the working hour.

    Cons

The administrative procedure can be quite complicated and troublesome. The freedom provided on the research can lead to the unexpected ending. And conducting research on just one topic for 4 years can lead to low motivation in the final phase.

  8.

I have been working at University of Leuven full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

KU Leuven offers a great infrastructure to do research. The international community at the university is great, open minded, and smart.

    Cons

Leuven is a small town, where locals are not open to new ideas or different people.

The phd scholarships are good, but, for foreign students, there are only 12 salaries and no extra vacation money.

The administration at the City Hall is terrible. Every year you have to spend a few days going to the city hall, waiting in infinite queues to renew your papers (residence permit, etc, if you are a foreigner).

The integration between the university and the City Hall is quasi-non-existent, meaning, countless issues with the city hall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the administrative procedures and somehow tie, or sync, them with the City Hall of Leuven, in order to facilitate the procedures for foreign students.
