Great work that gets me hand on experience while I am in school

    Research Assistant (Former Employee)
    Lafayette, LA

ProsHands-on work, Being able to work and go to school. Also, you get to know the professor that you work with and they are often able to help you with other school related issues.

ConsGetting paid on time can be a problem. They also only pay minimum wage.

Advice to Senior ManagementGetting paid through direct deposit is great, but it would help out if we could get paid more than once a month (especially when sometimes we have to wait two month to get paid.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Ragin Cajun

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Lafayette, LA

ProsWe are the Ragin Cajuns. The athletic teams are improving. Coffee shop in the library and bookstore. Online learning is starting to take off.

ConsComputer system is slowly crawling out of the dark ages. Management takes too long on decisions and keeps hiring the wrong people, which causes problems for everyone else. Salaries have been frozen for over 5 years, unless your division head is smart enough to restructure and give out new titles to get a pay raise.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind some money for pay raises. Get VP for finances to move faster. Consider letting employees use sick time for time off with sick kids. encourage dinosaur professors to retire to improve the commitment to online teaching/learning.

    Waste of time!

    Research Scientist (Former Employee)
    Lafayette, LA

ProsEasy going, not too much work to do, low expectation.

ConsUniversity is not honest on green card policy. If you are a foreign worker, DO NOT work there no matter what they told you at the beginning. They just DO NOT want you to get green card as they are afraid of losing you. They only want to take advantage of you as much as possible and lie to you about the non-existing green card policy. After they use up your 6-year H-1B they just kick you out, say sorry and blame the government on immigration policy - if you haven't gotten an industry H-1B (cap-subject H-1B) then you are screwed up because you cannot just get another job if you haven't been counted towards the annual quota. Luckily I finally got one this year (but still wasted more than TWO YEARS getting it due to their lies), so I left right after the cap-subject H-1B has been approved, giving them only one week notice - I should have just given one day notice as what they have done to me was indeed ridiculous and disgusting. How could a university be successful when they think $300 lawyer fee is way more important than their employees' carrer? They sold their souls to devil for only $300.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up! Forcing star foreign workers to stay by holding their green card applications is NOT ethical and is NOT the right thing to do. They still leave (and even much sooner) if they finally figure out that all promises are actually lies. They will for sure hate the university because they might have wasted several years on waiting for cap-subject H-1B annual quota in order to change job. That would be a no-win situation.
