I have been working at University of Louisiana at Lafayette part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience working with Professors in my major. I truly feel that I am getting qualified to go directly into any job after graduating

    Cons

It is not often that I get paid a month late. Payroll only works once a month and if the forms are turned in late, the pay for that month gets push back a month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Getting paid twice a month and submit hours online (instead of only once a month)

I have been working at University of Louisiana at Lafayette full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The city is 2014 Happiest Place in the US. The city has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in 2013. The area has great food, great music, and beautiful bayous.

    Cons

The culture of the community, area, and government leadership doesn't support education; instead raiding education funds to divert to other interests. This leaves the University talent rich and incentive poor. It is difficult to recruit new talent and they are bleeding the existing talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In this troubling economy and with the lack of support for education, little perks may make the difference. Such free parking for employees, ticket prices for UL athletic events that are similar to students, flexible guidelines for summer reimbursement related to class size depending on department.

I have been working at University of Louisiana at Lafayette full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

We are the Ragin Cajuns. The athletic teams are improving. Coffee shop in the library and bookstore. Online learning is starting to take off.

    Cons

Computer system is slowly crawling out of the dark ages. Management takes too long on decisions and keeps hiring the wrong people, which causes problems for everyone else. Salaries have been frozen for over 5 years, unless your division head is smart enough to restructure and give out new titles to get a pay raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find some money for pay raises. Get VP for finances to move faster. Consider letting employees use sick time for time off with sick kids. encourage dinosaur professors to retire to improve the commitment to online teaching/learning.
