I have been working at University of Louisiana at Lafayette full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The city is 2014 Happiest Place in the US. The city has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in 2013. The area has great food, great music, and beautiful bayous.

    Cons

The culture of the community, area, and government leadership doesn't support education; instead raiding education funds to divert to other interests. This leaves the University talent rich and incentive poor. It is difficult to recruit new talent and they are bleeding the existing talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In this troubling economy and with the lack of support for education, little perks may make the difference. Such free parking for employees, ticket prices for UL athletic events that are similar to students, flexible guidelines for summer reimbursement related to class size depending on department.

I worked at University of Louisiana at Lafayette part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hands-on work, Being able to work and go to school. Also, you get to know the professor that you work with and they are often able to help you with other school related issues.

    Cons

Getting paid on time can be a problem. They also only pay minimum wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Getting paid through direct deposit is great, but it would help out if we could get paid more than once a month (especially when sometimes we have to wait two month to get paid.

The office culture of the department I worked in was unlike any other. There are many opportunities for advancement as long as you work hard and surround yourself with the right people.

    Cons

As with all higher education the falls of budget cuts make it difficult to get approval. At times the work gets repetitive.
