I have been working at University of Maryland full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood benefit, like insurance, housing and so on. Flexible working time. Annual leave is usually longer than other big companies. That's the benefit of working at a university.

ConsSalary is not competitive. Living in the DC. Metropolitan area with such salary might be hard. Also, the job might be boring at some time.

My experience here is varied day to day, great people, no egos!

Faculty Research Assistant (Current Employee)
College Park, MD

I have been working at University of Maryland full-time for less than a year

ProsI like the diversity of research and the opportunities to train and learn more. I plan to take advantage of tuition remission at some point. Many of my peers do, and it is encouraged to do so! Working hours are flexible. Free shuttle bus network throughout campus.

ConsNot any that I can think of right now. Training is encouraged, work-life balance is great...maybe the health insurance cost is a little high compared with the previous place I worked....

A great place to learn and teach!

Teaching Assistant (Current Employee)
College Park, MD

I have been working at University of Maryland part-time for more than a year

ProsThere are some very engaging professors who love both their subject areas as well as adapting to the new kinds of students and technological implementations in the classroom and lecture environments.

ConsThe structure of some departments is outdated; younger professors and department heads are working, however, on updating curriculums in a way that better coincide with what society expects.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind an alternative to the current student evaluation structure. it is important information but there is almost no incentive to complete these at the end of semesters.
