An Okay experience, but do not have too many high hopes.

    Graduate Assistant (Former Employee)
    College Park, MD

ProsHealthcare benefits, tuition remission--which is extremely important for non-resident students--you can save tuition as well as your health insurance monthly payment.

The school has many opportunities--keep an eye on job posts and you will find some. Or talk to professors.

ConsAlthough opportunities abound, you need to figure out where and when. Job posts are not very well maintained--they should have taken down posts that are already filled. Need more communication to the students.

good experience working at the UMD

    Communications and Marketing (Former Employee)
    College Park, MD

ProsFlexible hours, nice people, helped a lot to settle in. The University of Maryland was a nice place to work as an office assistant.

Conslow pay, insignificant work sometimes. I can't complain too much about a lowly job.

Advice to Senior Managementthere's definitely more people working than needed with many just doing the bare minimum.

A place to learn and grow

    Research Associate (Current Employee)
    College Park, MD

ProsMulticultural, collaborative environment... one of the biggest public Universities in US... great exposure

ConsSometimes too big... too many kind of people to deal with... lot changed with new administration. Now I am scared of the data breach

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is hard to manage such a huge infrastructure... introduce newer management positions within schools and departments.

    Teaching Assistant

    Teaching Assistant (Current Employee)
    College Park, MD

ProsFlexibility of schedule. Great networking possibilities. Chance to learn more about the back-end of the University. Ability to practice in-class skills. Constant practice of abilities and concepts. Close connection to professors and students.

ConsLots of grading, sometimes professors can be very frustrating. Not always great communication between assistant, professor, and students. you can only work 20 hours a week so basically for only 2 professors.
