    Pros

For a student job, my graduate assistantship paid very well particularly considering that I only worked 20 hours a week. My management team (DIT) was comprised of fantastic and friendly IT professionals.

    Cons

UMD only has to give students 30 days notice of whether or not a student's contract will be extended, and UMD does not sign students for longer than 1 year at a time. I've seen colleagues be notified a month into summer that their job has been slashed, leaving them wanting for tuition and a living wage for the coming semester.

    Advice to Management

Extend student contracts to the length of a student's studies at UMD.

    Pros

    It is hard to say.

    Cons

Salary is low. Career opportunities are not clear. The level of undergraduate students is just awful and so teaching is not always fun.

    Advice to Management

Increase the salary of Graduate Assistants, especially math graduate students - they are serving the whole campus.

    Pros

Student life, interpersonal interactions, and just a general easy going atmosphere within the campus. The work can be interesting at times but this was only occasionally. The pay is good for stupid simple jobs.

    Cons

Not challenging work so you can get bored easily, not easy to grow within the company, and the pay isn't fantastic and almost impossible to get a raise.

    Advice to Management

Allow better access for your research associates to get more acquainted with the department they're working for. You generally just feel like a lemming tossed in to do a specific set of instructions and then just rinse and repeat.

  9. It was exhausting.

    Pros

Access to university laboratories and research. Professors were very intelligent and caring for someone new to teaching.

    Cons

The large university size implies larger size classrooms. My lab section consistently had 35-50 students for one to two TAs.

    Advice to Management

Provide more than two TAs per section.
