I have been working at University of Maryland full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits and there are a lots of smart and friendly people to work with. Getting access to free software like Photoshop is an awesome side benefit.

    Cons

The problem with UMD is the great deal of bureaucracy that comes with a large state university. The area around the campus isn't really that great and you always get police reports of armed and unarmed robberies in the area late at night. Not the best salaries compared to the expensive DC area.

I worked at University of Maryland as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay is great for the time commitment. As a research institution, it is a great opportunity to collaborate on academic research that could become published. Office hours prove to be a great time to practice your leadership and teaching skills.

    Cons

It is a one-time stipend pay so if looking for a weekly check, this should be negotiated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One of my best experiences was teaching the class for a week while the professor was out on business. Strongly encourage teachers to provide this opportunity to all student teaching assistants,=.

I have been working at University of Maryland

    Pros

Low stress. People who work there are really helpful. Good experience.

    Cons

The pay is not good. But as a student who does not have any professional experience, I don't have the right to ask for too much.
