I worked at University of Massachusetts as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Students were from a variety of backgrounds and it was stimulating to work with them. Supervision was light and I was free to design my own curriculum.

    Cons

I was not a Massachusetts resident at the time, and I suddenly had to file Massachusetts income tax, which was a fairly complicated procedure. I have nothing negative to say about UMASS itself, however

I worked at University of Massachusetts (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great for a grad student. Faculty were very supportive and gave a great deal of autonomy. Excellent experience teaching undergraduates.

    Cons

Support for teaching associates not as strong as it is for University faculty (though this was surprising). Can be overwhelming.

    Advice to Management

For large classes taught by teaching associates, I would recommend TA support for the TO. Otherwise, it was a fantastic experience.

I have been working at University of Massachusetts full-time

    Pros

Friendly people, Less pressure, good pay. This place has flexible work schedule and during vacation periods only very little things to do.

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy to get even to accomplish small task. Labor works usually gets delayed for months due to lack of planing.

    Advice to Management

If they can minimize the bureaucracy to get things done would be great. Plus they recently moved the central receiving to a off campus facility and that causes delays in shipments

I have been working at University of Massachusetts part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Depends on the kind of work you get. I am developing a responsive website, so learning new stuff and enjoying my work.

    Cons

Majority of the positions are for work-study students, so little difficult for international students to find a part-time/assistantship.
