I have been working at University of Miami part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Beautiful campus with a relaxed atmosphere. There's plenty to do between the numerous on campus events, downtown Miami, Wynwood and of course South Beach. There are many resources to develop professionally at the newly renovated Toppel Career Center and the Alumni Association has many members both in South Florida and internationally.

    Cons

This is a bit unique to my situation but the bureaucracy here can be a bit frustrating when you're trying to get things done. For example, there have a been a few mishaps that led to delaying tuition, work assignments and the paperwork for becoming a research assistant and renewing my contract each year.

I worked at University of Miami full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent Faculty, good Health Care Benefits, good work-life balance possible

    Cons

resistance to change, often unfriendly (rude) environment, often slow regulatory/legal process, often low salaries, often no room to grow/get promoted, often too high workload per individual in clinical research, expensive parking ($50-70 per month), expensive and not-world class quality daycare on campus (Dominion tower), no 401K during the first year of employment, often layoffs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider applying more positive reinforcement to motivate employees and adding more benefits (lost after 2009-2010). Consider expediting legal/regulatory processes in clinical research and legal department.

I have been working at University of Miami full-time for more than a year

    Pros

As an RA, hours are very flexible, and the work required is clear. Working for UM has lots of perks, and is definitely motivating.
The compensation is obviously a huge plus, but more importantly the community you build wit the other RAs is something you will likely hold on to for a long time.

    Cons

The occasional 4am calls are never fun, but it's part of the job! Also, you may get stuck with some bad vacation days, but it's nothing devastating.
If you're not a creative person, or someone who does not like to take initiative, do not work here! You have to be willing to explore with this job.

I have been working at University of Miami as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The managers understand that students have to do school work, which takes priority over the job. This helps if you are trying to get a day off to study.

    Cons

The pay is competitive to other basic jobs but still not very much. It is easy to get confused becasue managers have multiple responsibilities besides being in charge of the intern.
