Pros
This is a high-tech job working with impressive pneumatic CNC machines. The job is straight forward yet challenging in that while manufacturing a curcuit boards is fundamentally the same, the circuit boards are nonetheless fundamentally different.
Cons
The company can be quite hiearchical which does not allow the full recognition of ones true potential. The company also seems to do many things "by the book" which is good building from some elses experiences, but inhibits tailored thinking to the subject at hand.
Pros
The benefits were great. Also, there are good opportunities to network with others. Lastly, it's great institution to work for.
Cons
It's hard working in a university that is subject to the state's budget cuts. It makes life stressful when one has to think about pay freezes, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership was okay, but it could be improved. There is a new president, so things may change. However, the budget cuts make the environment more hostile.
Pros
A very laid back environment that was comfortable in which to work. I enjoyed working with my colleagues and when I left the university, my co-workers and superiors said I'd be greatly missed.
Cons
For the amount of work that a graduate instructor must do, aside from teaching and studying, there was an expectation to do more work and the compensation was not that great.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop taking money from the CLA to fund other colleges within the university. CLA students make up a majority of the students, but the tuition is used to fund other areas of the university.
Pros
The University has been historically a great place to work. A lot of students aspire to get a 'U' job after they graduate. I love the people I worked and how responsive the HR department would be in terms of benefits and such.
Cons
There are a of shifting priorities for support staff members at the U. They have tried to get rid of the Regent's Scholarship and have made everybody take a pay cut and furlough days.
Advice to Senior Management
Minnesota needs to have success within its means. Not have this insane push for constant research at the cost of a great undergraduate education.
Pros
Working at the circulation desk allows you to interact with the law students and professors.
Cons
Cleaning books to kill time was the worst part of working there. There was no chance for students to demonstrate their skills.
Advice to Senior Management
The boss was an extremely talented and kind person. She was the best part of working at the library.
Pros
Benefits, coworkers, location, tuition reimbursement
Cons
Incompetent management and poor leadership
Pros
Culture, tuition discount, benefits package, great field of opportunity
Cons
it's enormous; university-wide systems (financial, HR, etc.) are extremely cumbersome; also, school is publicly funded and having financial trouble
Pros
Great benefits and people. Great student environment.
Cons
Poor internal communications. Low state funding is a detriment.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase transparency and communications.
Pros
It's always good to work in the Academic. You have lots of chance to know what's new.
Cons
The salary is way too low. They don't support the green card application.
Advice to Senior Management
Hope the University can support the green card application.
Pros
Very fun place to work because it allows you to gain some of the skills you'll use in real life.
Cons
Pay raises were put on hold during my tenure here at the University so i wasn't able to realize and monetary gain from my experience or length of time in the Department
