    Pros

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the hospital and working to ensure that each patient was treated with respect and as if they were the only one

    Cons

rotating shifts were not good for me

    Advice to Management

really want a clinic receptionist job....I have limited mobility and need a position where I am able to sit for periods of time doing things such as answering the phone, checking patients in and out of the hospital computer work etc.

    Pros

university is nice and very collaborative. in terms of funding opportunities you will be competing with south-east affiliate, which is not bad. Guyton legacy has strong impact on research.

    Cons

not much to do in Jackson. poorest state with all strings attached.

    Pros

Benefits, time off policies, overall great people, room for growth, free tuition!

    Cons

Parking, who they let be in higher management (some departments, not all)

    Advice to Management

Please do not let people who do not know how to do ANYTHING other than tell others what to do because they are too lazy or really don't even know how (but pretend they are too "busy to) be in management. Please!

    Pros

    The University is Family friendly.

    Cons

There is still an air of the Deep South operations at the University. Minorities are not give the same opportunities for advancement. There are no advancement opportunity for minorities. Specifically, Black people are overlooked or marginalized on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Diversity is needed in management at UMMC

  6. Enjoyed the academic atmosphere and opportunities provided to learn about medicine, enjoyed my coworkers, and benefits.

    Pros

State of the art equipment upgraded and encouragement to take on multiple duties as assigned. Provided a family atmosphere when time off was needed.

    Cons

Company values seem to change and it became more about the number of patients and quantity of time spent rather than the quality. It was more of management changes that spurred this change than the providers cared to.

    Advice to Management

Encouraging patients to refer their family and friends as a part of their customer service, may provide more positive response than just relying on the ability to accept their insurance. At least it seems that way in my opinion.

Went there for the potential; left because few seemed to want to rise to it.

    Pros

Jackson is actually a wonderful, livable and vibrant gem of a city to live in. There is a children's hospital (Batson) as well as a VAMC and several other hospitals in the area. New companies are regularly arriving in Jackson (Whole Foods) and the city is multicultural and tolerant. Additionally, there is a phenomenal art museum in town.

    Cons

Sadly UMC is nowhere near the place it could be. The leadership is non-existent, and bad behavior is met with a blind eye. Several departments have gone through multiple chairmen in a very short duration. Ultimately, UMC looks good on the surface but is rotten beneath.

    Advice to Management

Need to re-examine priorities and re-right the ship.

    Pros

Great benefits because it is a state job. Great work environment. People are genuine.

    Cons

Opportunity for advancement can seem low. Pay increases aren't frequent. Parking. Needs more diversity at the executive level.

    Advice to Management

Start searching more internally to promote employees to leadership positions. You have a ton of talent being wasted in departments across the institution in lower level positions. It can help improve moral and turnover.

    2) Good work environment
    3) Timely promotion

    Cons

    1) lazy people
    2) work gets pushed off
    3) do not delineate between research and medical data so becomes very hard for researchers to get important soft wares and electronic items
    4) national meetings trips accounts are scrutinized to more than required extent

    Advice to Management

    1) Step Up
    2) distinguish between Medical and research staff
    3) Help with visa issues of international employees

    Pros

University pays more than most other state agencies and is located in central Mississippi. there is a work environment that allows for individuals to feel like they are always part of the team.

    Cons

working at any hospital has it challenged and university is no different. there is limited ability to move up the corporate ladder leaving employees feel as if they have no options.

    Pros

Depending on the lab you're working in, there's always something to do
    Nice people
    Decent atmosphere
Loose protocol for clocking in and out

    Cons

Co-workers constantly trying to get over on other co-workers
Bad management over the lab techs
    Bad attitude of the post-docs
    PAY
They love for you to work overtime, even though you're paid a salary
They take about 15% of your check for retirement

    Advice to Management

Please raise the salary for your tech positions. It requires plenty of overtime with no compensation. The salary is barely enough to survive off.
