I worked at University of Mississippi (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Office of Admissions, and university as a whole, offers great benefits such as 2 weeks paid vacation and 1 week sick leave. You also get to use your health benefits immediately as opposed to waiting the standard 30 days. The university also offers great staff/employees discounts on health facilities, tickets to sporting events, and performing arts events discounts too.

    Cons

Not competitively compensated for my position.

    Pros

Colleagues are collegial and the campus is beautiful.

    Cons

Too many adjuncts, not enough diversity in administration, poor performing students, and low pay.

    Advice to Management

Pay your TAs more so that you can recruit stronger students, hire admins that are not your typical good ol' boys, and raise academic standards for undergraduate students.

I worked at University of Mississippi part-time

    Pros

Very nice natural environment and people to work in. I used to be working as a teaching assistant there. I enjoyed plenty of opportunities and help there, especially from the program I was in.

    Cons

Bureaucracy inefficiency that probably exists in all public school systems. Responsibilities of different departments of the school are not well clarified and get students very confused.

    Advice to Management

Please be advised, especially the graduate school and the registrars office, that there shouldn't be too much overlapping of the responsibilities. The graduate assistant at the graduate school seems to be taking too much work that she is capable of.

I worked at University of Mississippi part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Experience. Flexible hours. Great faculty.

    Cons

Students want to be spoon-fed at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep number of Teaching Assistants at a low number. Too many workers means not enough hours for each of them.
