I have been working at University of Missouri Hospital full-time

    Pros

Good people to work with, team approach

    Cons

A bit small town mindset in some people, but overall a more open minded, liberal college town, and educated viewpoints have prevailed from what I've seen.

    Advice to Management

    I've had a great experience so far, I wouldn't change a thing.

I have been working at University of Missouri Hospital full-time

    Pros

The hospital has great differential for odd shifts, good benefits, and coworkers are usually friendly and helpful.

    Cons

I have never had so many managers be rude to me than in the few months I have worked here. My specific management team does not communicate properly and rarely listens to your side of a story. The HR department is unorganized. The pay is lower for new nurses than at any other hospital in the area.

    Advice to Management

Stop making us feel like idiots, be nice to your employees.

    Pros

Benefits Pay Wellness Incentives, Healthy culture Rewarding work Culture of Yes Good food, discounts

    Cons

High Turnover Mandated Overtime Staff often complains about scheduling and how they are overworked, forced to work certain holidays without being allowed to switch. Management doesn't seem to have much contact with nursing staff, and there doesn't seem to be a system in place for discussing performance. Clear rules for what patients are and are not allowed to do are not in place Lack of communication between staff, social workers, nurses, and management

    Advice to Management

Talk with your new staff to let them know what they're doing wrong. They're working hard to fit into their new role and just taking word that they aren't doing right and firing them is a crappy way to guide someone through their new job without having met with them first.

I have been working at University of Missouri Hospital part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive pay, great position for students. Provides a well-rounded experience for those that have not worked in the medical field. Lots of internal opportunities - always hire within first.

    Cons

No benefits at all part-time employees - not even time and a half on holidays. Often times require to work major holidays when full-time employees receive double time and a half on holidays.

    Advice to Management

Consider paying part-time employees time and a half during holidays - or don't require them to work those days. It shows appreciation for them giving up those days to work.

I have been working at University of Missouri Hospital full-time

    Pros

Great Community, much like a family. Always lots of overlap and communication between the different departments of the hospital. Great place to work.

    Cons

Like all hospitals, every department blames every other department for any problems that they may have. Often understaffed and pay could be better.

    Advice to Management

Take more input from employees. The employees see the day to day situations and have many ideas on how things could be improved to make the hospital and lab run more efficiently.
