I have been working at University of Missouri part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I have loved having the opportunity to work on real world projects and problems. It has been incredibly educational and I have grown a lot as a person because of it.

    Cons

I think one of the cons is that your educational and work experience is dependent on the faculty that teach or employ you. I believe that this can either make for a great or horrible experience depending on the faculty member.

I worked at University of Missouri full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and decent amount of time off.

    Cons

The biology department is imploding due to lack of administrative support. They've lost so many good faculty over the years due to poor leadership at every level. When I first started, there in the 1990s it was awesome. Thanks to poor leadership at the highest level as well as a board of curators who only know about business, the school has been mostly gutted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get non-business people to run the university. A university is NOT a business.

I have been working at University of Missouri

    Pros

In the heart of Kansas City. Employment opportunities upon graduation. Business friendly city, so plenty of internships available while attending school.

    Cons

Horrible payscales for students. A student instructor gets the same pay as a Graduate Teaching Assistant or grader for a course. Although faculty is well-accomplished, there aren't many positions for research assistants due to lack of grants. Extremely expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve payscales for students. Cut down on administrative staff who are often inefficient. Require faculty to get grants before promoting them. Have faculty collaborate with other departments.

    Pros

Get a chance to work with people from different places
gain more knowledge while interacting with others
    able to increase managerial skills

    Cons

Management is not up to the expectation.
In some places the informations services is not up to mark.
It is better for work study students

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is good at University of Missouri Kansas City. Good place to work. If management pays even more attention on career services department, it will be more helpful to students.

I worked at University of Missouri

    Pros

You can work and go to school with this job. It is easy and you can get alot of homework done.

    Cons

There are alot of annoying questions that students ask. Also you have to clock in on the slow computers, and you cannot be late.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is not very much management. All they do is audit you every once in a while to make sure that you fill the printer with paper.

I have been working at University of Missouri

    Pros

Work/life balance is pretty good, as are benefits-beyond the standard there is still a pension (although this is probably changing), tuition reimbursement for dependents, lots of vacation and on campus ben's like the rec center.

    Cons

Can be beurocratic depending on department, professors tend to have huge ego's, raises are very small 2% IF they are approved, hasn't happened in two years due to state budget issues. It is a recession though...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue working to break down the bureaucracy found in most universities. All in all still a great place to work.
