I worked at University of Missouri (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They give people a chance to thrive that normally wouldn't get a chance

    Cons

They have some of the lowest pay rates of any school of their size. If you are a kiss up you can move up, but if you keep your head down and work hard you will most likely stay in place.

    Advice to Management

Reward knowledge and hard work over going with the flow and not questioning managements decisions. Take constructive criticism and learn to improve. Complacency is not a good thing.

I worked at University of Missouri part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This job gave me an opportunity to become a leader and interact with students. Its also a good working environment because majority of the part-time employees are students.

    Cons

Work schedule often conflicted with school and extra curricular activities. The managers were sometimes rude.

    Advice to Management

Understand that your staff if composed of students that came to college to work towards a degree, not a supervisor position at Mizzou Market.

I have been working at University of Missouri (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are awesome. They are very friendly and keep the workplace lively.

    Cons

There is some lack of communication between departments. Most communicating is done through email, which is very slow.

    Advice to Management

Need a better chain of command. There are too many supervisors, so it gets confusing who reports to whom.

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time

    Pros

The nurses are great to work with. Most of the doctors are as well. GREAT place to get really good nursing experience.

    Cons

Sometimes it doesn't feel like the nurses are valued as much. Seemed to be always short staffed. Currently going through some changes so there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out.

    Advice to Management

Go to the bedside and see what is actually going on and then make improvements or changes. There seems to be a disconnect between administration and staff and a lot of the times administration want staff to do certain things that just can't be done at the bedside but they don't know that because they haven't been at that level.

    Pros

Relaxed working environment; wonderful college town.

    Cons

Poor salary; no clear departmental objectives; more concerned with maintaining tranquility and avoiding hurt feelings than actually being successful in our core mission. Over any length of time, this will drive away those employees driven to achieve. I more than doubled my salary in my subsequent career move.

    Advice to Management

Have goals; create a plan to achieve those goals; share and implement that plan; assess progress; make adjustments as necessary. This isn't rocket science.

I have been working at University of Missouri part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can learn through the projects, plus get paid 1000+ which is pretty enough to cover daily expense

    Cons

No time to get prepared for seeking jobs.
