I worked at University of North Alabama full-time

    Pros

Benefits, culture, environment are great! Employees have the opportunity to have input into major decisions because of the "Shared Governance" concept. Tuition remission for employees, their spouses and children is very good.

    Cons

The general economy in Northwest Alabama is not good. It could be difficult for a spouse to obtain meaningful employment in this area other than the University.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook

I worked at University of North Alabama as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

There was supervision and guidance but also a lot of independent research that led to furthering my knowledge and bolstering my aptitudes.

    Cons

It was only a seasonal position but most are not like that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at University of North Alabama

    Pros

    Great benefits.
    Peaceful city.
    Great weather.
    Good working environment.
Colleagues are reasonable and respectful of each other
Because of the relative small size of the city and the University, most people will know you by your name, which can be a pro or a con depending on your personality.

    Cons

    Politics
Florence is peaceful but a very small city
UNA is on proration so bonuses or pay increases are out of question

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes the Management has a tendency to be a little autocratic. It would help to enlist more feedback from the mid and low level staff.

    Pros

Supportive team and stuff, fun experience and great point to put on the resume. Fun environment to work in.

    Cons

Not enough compensation for the amount of work. Hard to enforce students preparation without assigning them any grades.

  7.

Enjoyed my time at UNA...the students are wonderful...but politics not so much so

I worked at University of North Alabama

    Pros

The students are great leaders and so interested in growing and learning

    Cons

Management is not good about communicating (heard most 'news' from outside sources first) and excruciatingly hard work is expected but not really rewarded
